how much???

I know it all depends on the food you are feeding...but i can't help but wonder if maggie is eating too much???

she is 11 months old, 5.1 lbs. how much (guesstimate) do you think I should feed her per day?

If it's kibble probably somewhere between 1/3 and 1/2 cup a day. When I fed Lacy kibble I gave her about a half a cup a day and she's 7lbs. Now she's on a raw diet and gets 4oz a day.

we've been feeding about 1/4 cup twice a day...but she really only nibbles on it. she doesn't do well on a scheduled feeding...she will have a bite or two, then kinda snack during the day as she gets hungry. but she never gets more than 1/2 cup in her bowl on any given day. Whatever she doesn't eat when i put food in her bowl, i leave it for her to have throughout the day. then at dinner, i will add more to it. usually, by the end of the day, the bowl is empty. not all the time, but sometimes. i'm sure daisy snacks on it a little too

I don't do by portions, I just fill the bow up a little and Dakota gets fed 3 times a day, and Aubrey gets fed 2 times, unless he gets into the cat food.

When Lacy ate kibble, I put 1/2 cup in her bowl in the morning and she might grab a bite throughout the day and would usually eat it in the evening. I could never get her to eat it as soon as I set it down. With her raw diet she gobbles it up - I feed her twice a day. Why do you think you're feeding Maggie too much? Does she seem to be overweight to you? You should be able to clearly feel their ribs without a layer of fat over them - but not to where you can feel every bone in their body. Have you asked your vet what they think of her body composition?

A raw diet is mostly raw meat, bones and organs. The one I have her on is 95% meat, bones, and organs and 5% fruits and veggies. Some raw feeders say dogs don't need the fruits and veggies and some say you do. I'm not really sure if she needs them or not but I definitely don't think it hurts her to have them. No grains are included in the diet (rice, corn, wheat, etc). Most raw-feeders mix the diet themselves, but I feed a pre-packaged diet. I feed Nature's Variety Raw Medallions. you know, i am a horrible judge of wether a dog is overweight...i always think dogs are too skinny and my hubby tells me i'm crazy LOL

i was just curious about this because of how much Bubba and Roxy eat, and I think I feed maggie twice that amount every day. but I will ask the vet next time we go in what they think. I guess I can feel her ribs...but she isn't bony at all. I have to TRY to feel her ribs

is that all you really feed them through the day the bag of food that max is on is low protine diet and he needs 1 cup to 1 1/4 cup and other bags iv seen were the same

all of the foods i have ever fed say 1/4-1/2 per day. but really, all foods are different, i guess it all depends on the ingredients. i started maggie on royal canine and it was 1/4-1/2 cup per day. and now we are feeding nature's select and I just got a new shipment and read the feeding instructions, it says the same.

i think i just need to ask the vet if she is overweight (at 11 months ) and if so, then i will just monitor her eating better

Yeah, and depending on her weight you can ask the vet how much to feed her.

Izzy is 8 mos and 2 pounds 5 ounces and our vet has told us 1/2 cup per day so she gets fed 2x a day 1/4 cup and I'm lucky if she eats that....she is not a big eater to say the least.

maggie really isn't either. she just picks at her food. this morning, i gave her 1/4 cup of food and she may have eaten 1/4 of that. she just picks. and after the hyperglycemia incident we had when we first got her, i have always just left the food out for her to snack on during the days. so i really doubt she could POSSIBLY be overweight, she really doesn't eat much at all. if anything, she might be overweight because i give her some eggs for protein. maybe 3 eggs a week. any chance that could put the weight on her? I RARELY give her the yolks because that is where all the calories are.

hubby told me last night he thinks she is getting "porky"

My Mari is 3lbs at 81/2 months and eats her food, Kodaks food and my food if I let her. I can't stop her and now I may have to go back to feeding them seperately. By the time Kodak is ready to finish his adult food, she's already gobbled it up. I don't know why she's so greedy, I give her a 1/2 cup of dry food. That usually lasts till dinner time, then a few times during the week I give them wet (soft) puppy food. She doesn't care as long as it can fit down her throat.
