| How to teach doggie door Hi, How can I teach Zoey to touch the bell on the sliding door so I know she has to go potty. Do I put her nose on it and open the door so she gets the message what to do ? |

| I take the foot and push it against the ribbon to make the bells ring. Using her nose to make it ring should come naturally to her later when she becomes used to it. I just never thought mine would appreciate me pushing her nose into it!

| this is how i taught lexi to ring the bells on my front door... i take a cup full of cheerios sit right by the door with her, i took her paw and touched the bells and repeatively said ring the bell... of course she would turn her head cause she was scared,, gave her a treat right away.. kept doing that for 5 minutes. stopped and started again. every day i moved further away from the bell... i was able to then tell her to ring the bell from 10 feet away and she would go over and touch her nose to the bell and come to me for a treat... now when she wants to go out, she rings the bell and i immediately let her out.. with praise

| Daisy's 10 months now, I think it's time we start training her to go out too. I'm gonna try the bells...

| I taught LillyBelle when she was 5mos to ring the bell (go ding-ding) when she wanted to go potty...she's two now and rings it faithfully--I posted the process on YT...its a lengthy post to retype..just check my post history and you should see it...it was pretty easy and quick. I have a very short video clip of her ringing it I think I could send if you send me your email..I tried to add it here, but it doesnt add. Last edited by sgab80; 08-21-2007 at 03:30 PM. |

| We had to bring Katy to a friends house and let her dog teach her how to go throught the door. She watched my DH the entire time he installed it and was afraid of it when he was done (I think it was the saws all that scared her). Good luck. |
