| Traveling Hello Everyone. I am going to be moving across the country. I will be driving. My Daisy gets car sick. I asked the vet what I should do. She told me to give her baby benadryl. I read somewhere that you only feed them once. I guess when you get to your destination. I was wondering what you guys do for your yorkies. |

| I'm sure if you're driving all the way across the country it will take you a few days? The Benadryl will just make her sleepy...I'm not sure if it helps with motion sickness. Maybe someone else has more experience with this. But I would think that either Dramamine or one of those meds would help with the motion sickness AND maybe make her drowsy. I would think she'd need to eat SOMETHING at least once a day, even if you're going to be travelling. Maybe take a cooler and cook some chicken and rice to give her a little bit of in the evening? That's what I would do anyway.

| I think I would ask the vet again, because you're going so far. One dose doesn't sound like it would make it.

| How far across the country? That may sound like a stupid question, but how many hours exactly? We travel with our dog to visit family 9 hours away. She tends to get car sick too. Do you have a crate or something that you put her in? I would just not feed her until you get there unless it is a few days trip or if she seems hungry. We put our dog in her crate and don't put toys or anything in there for her to throw up on. I usually have her blanket in there but am going to use a wee pad this time so it is disposable. Sometimes you just can't help the inevitable. When we stop, I let her out to do her business and see if she wants water or anything. Usually she doesn't. And we feed her about an hour before we leave and then she doesn't get anything else until we get there. She doesn't get hungry because of the nausea. I would make sure that benadryl is ok and how much before actually giving it to her. We don't medicate our dog for the trip. She pretty much just lays there until we stop anyway. Hope it all works out for you and your Daisy. GL! |
