Has any one else had problems bonding with the second puppy? - YorkieTalk.com Forums

I have two Yorkies, Meeka who is 6 months and Diesel who is 12 weeks. Meeka is very attached to my husband and me. She has been since the very begining. BUt Diesel is more attached to Meeka then to us. Is this normal? I really want him to have a strong bond with us. Tomorrow will only be two weeks that we have had him, so should I just give it some more time? Should I seperate them sometimes and spend alone time with them?

I got Kalina at 12 weeks and I have to honestly say that it took quite a while until she really seemed to be attached to us. At first she almost seemed indifferent to me, though she was very gentle and sweet. Now when I come home she starts going bananas as soon as she hears my car pull up. She flips and zips around - stopping periodically to kiss me - and gets so excited that she whines and barks. It kind of reminds me of a little baby who is so thrilled to see his mommy that he cries - almost as if she doesn't know what to do with her emotions. Give it time - he'll change.

When I got my second German Shepherd the two of them bonded big time and my first was never as close to us as he was before. People told us they would bond like that so we knew going in that would be the case.

I don't know about Yorkies since Lucy is my first but because of the case with my Shepherds, I know it may sound selfish but I decided from the start we would not be getting her a playmate. She has brother and sister felines that provide endless hours of fun for her not to mention our own world revolves around her

I'll be interested to hear what those with more than one have to say.

I've never had trouble bonding with the 2nd, 3rd or 4th babies, but have never really bonded with our first. She is just not as interested in us or as loving as the others.

I have 2 boys. I got them at the same time and they were brothers from the same liter. They are very bonded to each other! One of them for a long time I thought was not bonded to me at all. The other one is always licking me and looks me in the eye and seems to be more bonded to me. But the other one NEVER licks me, never looks me in the eyes when i talk to him. They both get crazy excited when I come home though and they actually the one I thought was not too bonded to me is always wanting me to pick him up, he sleeps on my lap all the time, curls up into my neck and snuggles like a human baby does and when hes uncomfortable or scared its always 'mommy' he wants, noone else. So I guess he IS bonded to me, he just shows it differently than my other guy!

Absolutely normal IMO Bella was 2 when we got Diggy, and he is all about Bella even tho she is all about the skin peeps in the house! He is now 5 1/2 months and slowly I am feeling the bond from him. I think it is just natural.

I wonder if it has to do with them being 2 different sexes ?? My girls both latched onto me and never let go. It took them 2 months to bond - but with me - it happened right away -

I wonder if he bonded to her because he's a boy and she a girl ?? I bet you see many changes as he grows - the first year they really go thru so many changes I wouldn't worry about it right now

It sounds like a good thing. If they get along so well,that's great. Also, they're the same species, so it really sounds natural. You have time to bond with the puppy, and I'm sure it will happen. Bribery works wonders!

When my third grandchild was born, my daughter was worried because she didn't care about the adults, not even Mommy. She watched the other 2 children all the time and only wanted to be with them. It all worked out and now she's as close to her Mommy, and the other adults as anyone would want.

I brought Oliver home when Otis was 2. I feel bonded to Oliver, but he definately bonded with his brother right away. If for some reason they have to be separated, when we come home, they are all about each other. It's like I'm not even there. I don't know if Otis is as bonded with Oliver as Oliver is to him. When Otis had to stay at the vet's office for 4 hours Oliver kept going to the kitchen door and looking all over the house for him, he even started crying! I think if you give it time, you'll feel the bond soon.

I definitely feel that my yorkie bonded to the other dogs in the house more than myself.

She's to the point now where sometimes we let her sleep alone in our bed and she'll get comfortable, and on outings where she is going solo she is much more loving.

I think it is just all the excitement of the other dogs most of the time, and she loves her siblings

Marcel was a Momma's boy from the start, which I relished, of course. He loved my hubby too. He wanted Wylie to like him, but Wylie took about a full month to truly "accept" him.

I think every dog is just different and the bond just happens in its own way.

Both Zada and Azrael have our hearts in a very major way. Both are so different from one another in looks and personality and a tremendus joy to us to watch and enjoy, and we love them both so very much, each in a different way. I could never see how it would be humanly possible to love one even the tiniest bit less.
I don't think you have that deep, deep, love at first with a puppy. I think it just grows and grows with time. Let things take it's own course and don't worry so much. Won't be long before you realize just how much love you have for the new member and how much he loves you too.

You should. I have had my girl for 3 weeks now, and shes not really close to me, shes closer to Aubrey. I would give it more time. I just sweet talk my girl, and then she still wants to play with Aubrey. Like last night I was left all alone, neither one of them wanted to play with me!
