My Baby Lacy weighs 10 lbs. Her mommy weighed 4 lbs and her daddy was 3.5 lbs. My breeder never gave me a specific weight, but I thought she would be tiny cuz her parents were. I wasn't upset when she started getting heavier, she's still my baby and I love her more than life itself!!! :D |

Just curious if you don't minde. |
I know you're disappointed now, but my Oscar is 8 lbs and growing--he will probably be about 10 lbs by the time he is done. Now that I have him, I realize just how robust and sturdy he is, and I'm glad he's not a tiny Yorkie. Very small ones can be so easily injured if you're not careful. Give it some time. The disappointment will go away, and you'll will find that you can't live without him. Just a sidenote, from what I understand, there can be quite a size difference between litter mates, and just because the parents are small doesn't always guarantee that their babies will be. Your breeder may not have been trying to deceive you. She probably honestly thought that your baby would be small. Take care, and keep your chin up! :) |
I'm sorry, but I don't think there is any way you can get any money back. No offense, but you should have seen the parents and if you wanted a weight guarantee you'd have to get it in a written contract; no breeder would ever sign that, just like no obstetrician would ever do an ultrasound and give a written guarantee of a human baby's size. |
I really did want to come across like a person who hates her dog :( because that is not the case. I am simply dissapointed beacause I did not get what I bargained for. I am also concerned about her temperament. Just last night she bit the year of my maltese dog and she wouldn't let it go for the longest time. You should have just heard the noises Lili made when trying to get away. Lana likes to bite her a lot and I think that last night she realy gave her a big scar. I really don't care about her size (my parents have a problem with this) I am concrned about the fact that she doesn't get along with Lili. I have had Lana for a month now and I thought that by that time she would get used to us at least a little bit and not be so "bitey" but she still is. I also have a few scars on my hands from her. She likes to play rough a lot and she spills a lot of blood in the process. My concern is her temperament and not her size. I am affraid that once she gets bigger Lili will not be able to defend herself. Now she is able to escape most of the time because she is bigger, but I don't know how she will fare once Lana outgrows her. |
I have a larger yorkie, she is about 8.5lbs. Her & I lived with my parents for 1 year before I got married and my mom has Maltese dogs. They all got along fine! If your maltese was the first dog in the house then she should be the alfa dog and not put up with anything from the Yorkie. Give it time they will adjust. If you are nervous just dont leave them alone together when no one is home. But I doubt a 7-10lb Yorkie will do a maltese much harm. As for the size, I think you should be happier she is on the larger size. Sometime those "Tea-cup" (non-existent) Yorkies arent healthy and die at an early age.!! You will love her and she will return your love!! :aimeeyork |

There's lots of info on the net about training and biting - you may want to start working with her on that - She's probably just in that puppy stage where they really don't know they're hurting - and they USUALLY grow out of it....Both mine did that and by 8-9 months or so (I forget) the biting eased up. |
The original dog in the house may not always be the alpha - often a laid back good tempered dog will not be able to dominate a fiesty newbie and consequently the newbie will become the alpha. Is Lana play biting or is it more serious ? If it's more serious and Lilli cannot defend herself or becomes injured you may well have to rethink having the two together. I would say it's early days yet so they may well given time sort themselves out but if you feel Lilli is in danger you must think seriously of rehoming Lana - btw 2 females may when they are both sexually mature fight worse than 2 males would. Neutering may help prevent this but it cannot be guaranteed. |
Lili has always been the most good natured dog I have ever seen. She would only lick things and love to be touched by people. Since Lana came in the picture she changed too. At the beginning when Lana was still shy Lili loved her. She actually took her around the house and showed her the ropes. She even offered her her own fruit. When I would feed her some banana she would take it and bring it to Lana. That was the sweetest thing I have ever seen a dog do. Ever since Lana became more relaxed with us she changed. She started biting everything and the worst thing is she bites Lili. She jumps on her neck, graps hard, and just yanks back and forth. Since she is shorter than Lili she bites from the bottom and somethimes she tries to climb on her back and grab her from the top. I truly don't think that this is a play thing becuse it looks like it is not - it is more of a dominance behavior. I ofthen see her grab Lili on the ear or tail and just pull as much as she can. Lili takes it most of the time but now she started changing too. Whenever the two are together they just chase each other and bark like there is no tomorrow. I don't mind this but I mind when they start fighting. Lana loves to jump on Lili and bite and I don't like this one bit. I think that it is affecting Lili a lot. She has never attacked anyone before and two days ago she started biting my boyfriend. This was completely out of the blue - she never did something like this before. I don't know if this is because of Lana or not, but I am worried. |
No one can tell you what to do or make decisons for you but if you are worried I think my first step would be to consider seeing a behaviourist to get a better idea what is happening and take their advise on whether to rehome or not. |
From Shortie's Mom My little guy is 6-7lbs. I think that is the perfect size! His personality is what makes him! Everyone who meets Shortie fall in love! |
What is his personality like? :) |
Addressing the OP's issue about compatability with a new pup in the house: Cooper, my second yorkie, has only been here for 5 weeks and is currently 15 weeks old. Is there fighting and biting going on between him and my 11 month old, Carter? YOU BETCHA! However . . . I have noticed in the last few days, that I don't have to constantly fuss the two of them for fighting when Cooper yelps. They are getting to be more like playmates instead of two yorkies fighting for alpha position. I took the advice of Villette who had posted saying it was a normal process and allowed them to fight their own battles and it worked! I thought I was going to pull my hair out and now . . . I don't have those thoughts. Lisa |

I found if I kept picking up Chanel or Cheri to stop this playing - it seemed to make it worse....so I just watched them really carefully - they DO like to scream for Drama still - but I've seen Cheri scream when Chanel was a good 2 feet away - lol...It sounds normal - and as far as the puppy biting YOU or someone else - stopping it right away and saying No Bite helps... |
I have been hoping for an outcome like that but it seems that the more they are together the more agressive they get. I truly hope that it will turn out well. She seems like she doesn't want any affection neither from Lili nor from us (the humans). When it comes to being with Lili she loves to jump on her and bite all the time, and when it comes to us she doesn't even let us hold her for longer than about 30 seconds. |
