| Is thin brittle hair normal? I am a proud new owner of a yorkie puppy but I am not sure that her coat is normal. I saw the mom and dad and they had a normal coat. the female that i have is the only blue and gold yorkie she had. All the other pups were black and tan. her hair along her back is very thin and the rest of her hair along her body is brittle. around her face seems to be normal. she eats well and doesn't seem to be sick at all. is this normal in a blue and gold yorkie? Do they end up growing a new coat? Any answers would be helpful. |

| Wecome ! This might be a born blue puppy - the breeders section will have people on it who would know whether it is or not. I know these puppies have thin hair....you should try and post some pics.... Debra x x x x |

| How old is your puppy? All yorkie puppies should be black and tan. Their coat doesn't start changing to blue and gold until several months old. The hair texture of a yorkie puppy should be soft and fluffy, although some will have coarser hair - but it should not be brittle. I never heard of "blue born" yorkies until I joined YT and don't know much about them other than they are blue instead of black at birth, are usually unhealthy, and don't live a very long life. I hope you dont have a "blue born." Do you have a picture?

| I didn't like to put about the sickly and not long lived bit, as I didn't want to scare you, but you have come to the right place to find out for sure....there may be another answer...it's just what sprung to mind with me too...but maybe not so....I deffo think you need to post pics, as there are members on here who have had blue born puppies and would be able to tell you, or put your mind at rest......but MyFairLacy is right....they should be black and tan when born. | Bumping this for you, because it's important. I do think I've read that blue born pups do have thin brittle hair. If you could post pics, there are people here that could help you, since often even some vets don't recognize these problem.
