Stay away from yorkiepup.com!! This is a sad story, please help! My name is Kellyn Crowder and I'm 22, I purchased a tea-cup yorkie from yorkiepup.com located in Texas. Jeff Dane, who is the breeder, sold me a 2.1lb puppy who arrived to me in Colorado on 7/28/2007 very sick. I did everything for the little guy I could, but he died on 8/4/2007 and Jeff Dane is taking NO responsibility. I have never owned a pet, and my fiance bought him for me as a present because we are moving and I've been sad about leaving my friends and family of 22 years. It was my baby, I only had him for 6 days, but he had a beg bed, toys galore, lots of food, designer clothes and he didn't spend a minute away from me, he was the first thing I've ever received unconditional love from and I'm beyond devastated:0( The puppy was diagnosed with blood in his lungs and died in ICU from pnemonia. This isn't about getting our money back or thousands of dollars lost in one week of vet bills, this is about a horrible man running a puppy mill, broken hearts and most importantly...those poop puppies he sells. I have no expierence with this type of situation and need help. Does anyone know of anyone/anywhere I can turn to for assistance or what is the appropriate path to persue when it comes to a matter such as this? I am devastated and heartbroken...please help! fell free to email me or call me with any assistance, God bless you all for even reading this. Sincerley, Kellyn Crowder 303-532-9839 kelbaby31@aol.com |
Honey, if you do a search on that name here at this site, you'll see that many have had your same experience. :( Good luck. :( I'm very sorry for your horrible experience, and your loss. |
Oh, honey I am so sorry for your loss. No one should have to go thru that. Please use the search option and search for Jeff or his business. I know you find lots of info on him & maybe some ways to get your $ back or options to continue to put the word out. (I just read about him from someone else in the last week or so) I'm glad you found yorkietalk, even if it was thru a difficult situation. Here you will find information on finding a reputable breeder, perhaps a new baby to love & many good friends I hope someday you can find room in your heart to love another yorkie; they are really wonderful dogs! yorkiesmiles |
Poor little puppy and poor you - I'm so sorry for your loss....:( :( :( :( |
I'm not so sure about the laws in the USA so well, but if you guys have something like a citizens advice bueru, where you get free legal advice- I would go there and see what they say. Do you have any proof of purchase, shipping records, vet bills? Ask your vet to help you with this- you will need absolute proof that this could have only have come from the breeder. Sorry to hear about your poor doggy- This is why I avoid pet stores when i holiday in the USA. |

I am so sorry this happened to you! I can only imagine your heartbreak. You may try contacting an attorney to find out what course to pursue. If enough people did something (and there have been many, many that this has happened to) maybe something could be done to stop this from happening again. The news media is also a good outlet. Let us know what happens. |
I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. Unfortunately that man is known for not caring about his animals. I would file reports with the Better Business Bureau and ripoffreport.com for starters. Also, since he sells online check with what federal laws he's breaking and file complaints with them. Selling sick animals is against the law. The more you tell your story and get the word out the more it will hurt his business(which is a d*ng good thing!) When your heart heals and you can save up again(although I hope you do get your money back, try contacting a lawyer for a free consult) then check out the for sale posts on yorkietalk, a lot of good people here have puppies for sale. At least your baby felt loved before he passed. Also, I believe he would have vet records or shot records. Did you get any of those? Send a letter to his vet letting him know that Jeff is selling sick animals and tell your story. Which ever registry your puppy was registered with, contact them too with a letter telling how sick your baby was and send a letter from your vet too. |
I am so sorry for you and the baby :(:(:(:(. You are in my Prayers. |
Kellyn, First I want to say how sorry I am for your loss. What a terrible thing to have to go through. A couple questions: What kind of paperwork did your baby come with? A health certificate? A guarentee? Shot records? Pedigree? If you got any of these, you can turn to them for some help or at least find out about what happened to your baby before it wa shipped to you. You have come to the right place for help. YorkieTalk will give you all the help and support that you will need. There are many breeders, large and small, that are on here, that can give send you in the right direction if you are wanting another puppy. I am a small breeder in Florida and have puppies, but I do NOT ship my babies. Again, I am sorry, and if there is anything I can do, please PM me and I will help all that I can. On a happier note, go to the nursery forum and you can see pictures of my Lexie's babies...she had 7 on 7-17-07 we are soooo proud of them. |
I hope you won't judge all breeders in Texas because of Jeff Dane. He is infamous for being a Puppy Mill and mistreating puppies and customers alike. I hope you pursue this man and get your money back! Be sure to check here for advise on reputable breeders when you start your search for another baby. I am so sorry for your loss. |
I'm so sorry for your loss. If you decide to get another one use the Breeders here. Their all terrific, and you'll get a healthy pup. |
I would contact the news/media. A while ago, a reporter did 1 or 2 short episodes on this breeder and his kennel. I'm not sure where the thread(s) about that went but I know they're here somewhere. I'll try to locate them for you and post them here. If anyone can find those threads, it would be great to post them here (hint hint, wink wink lolol) :D But maybe you can contact that reporter, tell him your story and that you have PROOF (medical information, vet bills, maybe get your vet to talk too, etc.) and see if he can help you out and maybe even do an episode regarding your situation. I'm SO SORRY for your loss. I know what it's like to lose a beloved baby, so my heart goes out to you. I wish you all the best of luck. |
Im sorry for your loss.....poor baby, puppy too. Just a small word of advice that will eliminate some of the heartache and give u a place to start. NEVER even look into an ad or site that is advertising a TEACUP. When you see that word RUN!!!! Teacup is in no way a true breed nor will it be a healthy baby (in most cases) There is one kind of Yorkie and thats a Plain Ole Beautiful Yorkshire Terrier! The breed standard is 5-7 pounds and trust me that is SMALL dont go for these 2-3 pound babies being called a teacup. Now you could very well end up woth a fur kid that is PERFECT and HEATHLY and ending up 3 pounds.....I have 2 both below standard in weight Diggy is 3.4 and Bella is 4.11. You can also get a Pure bred Yorkshire Terrier that ends up 20 pounds. Now those on here are referred to as "Teapots" again NOT a breed but a playful name for a bigger baby! I personally want my next Yorkie to be a bigger baby and trust me a 10 pound dog is still small, can be carried in a purse there is just more to love! SO again if you decide to search out another Yorkie RUN if the word TEACUP is present, PLEASE!!!!!! |
Here is a link to that guy's "contract": http://yorkiecontract.homestead.com/yorkiecontract.html So if the pup saw a vet within 48 hours, supposedly it is covered - but who would want a replacement pup from the same guy? :P You also have to pay a $350 shipping fee (which is more than the advertised shipping price on the main site.) Shouldn't he pay the shipping? I was also amazed to see them selling pups for $10,000 that looked identical to some of the "cheaper" $1300+ pups, who weighed the same. What a joke... |
I am so sorry! :( |

Kellyn, I am so terribly sorry for your loss. I hope someday this monster will be stopped. Jenn's post is exactly what I thought when I read about your tragedy! |
Kellyn, please let us know what happens with this case. What is it going to take to shut all these puppy mills down???  |
I just want to say that I am so sorry for your loss. At least your puppy knew love before he passed, and I hope that will bring you some comfort. I've heard a bunch of bad things about that "breeder" from this site as well as others =/ |
1 Attachment(s) Attachment 138983You were ripe for the picking... You entered into buying a dog with out researching anything...It's a hard lesson.. So sorry.. Many nice breeders out there and you picked a puppymill... Any breeder having constant production of puppy's with out being involve with know of pedigree or what's in the back ground and can't answer questions as to known health issues with the lines or what is the guarantee on the pup.. You didn't have the dog a week before it died.. I think you do have recourse call a lawyer or even your vet my have help there as to who to contact.. But maybe as you had no guarantee it may be the buyer beware thing?? So sad... hugs to you.. From my fur family to you tinny dog kisses.. :animal36 :animal36 :animal36 |
I'm so sorry for your loss!:( |
I am so sorry |
i\'m terribly sorry for your loss. :( |
sad loss of your Yorkie My heart goes out to you after your tragic experience. But maybe, in honour of your lost little puppy baby, you should make it your mission to put a stop to what this breeder is doing. Remember the \'power of one\' should never be underestimated. Spread the word of his unacceptable deeds. Then hopefully less people will suffer as you are suffering. 4 Years ago we bought a Siamese kitten. After 24 hours he became critically ill and was literally at death\'s door for 4 weeks. I had to nurse him 24/7 for this entire time. When I told the breeder, she immediately offered not only to refund us the price we had paid, she also offered to pay all our vets fees. We gratefully accepted the refund, but told her we would take responsibity for the vet\'s bills because he was our kitten. But THAT IS WHAT A DECENT BREEDER SHOULD DO. Don\'t accept his conduct without making a stand. |
I am so sorry for the loss of your little puppy. Somehow this awful person has to be stopped. I hope you take legal action against him. Is just amazes me how he just keeps going and no one seems to care. |
I have had yorkies for only about 4 yrs, I did a ton of research before actually making my purchase but I still remember the web horror stories about this guy. Please do what you can to be sure he gets a hit for the way he runs his business. It makes my blood boil that he continues to operate. Everyone here has mentioned that there are very good breeders on this site and any I have had contact with will not ship a puppy, much less a small, sick one. I am so sorry for your loss but please reconsider another with a good breeder or a rescue. They are wonderful furbabies. |
