| Too quiet? Hi to all, We have just acquired a 7 months old Yorkie from a friend that wasn't coping with 3 dogs. He is a very quiet male that hardly barks and won't run or grab toys, although he is very loving to all of us. The separation from his home could be a reason for this behaviour, but apparently he was like that in his previous home as well. All descriptions about Yorkies (and the one I had in the past) show them as very lively dogs with attitude. I wonder if my dog's behaviour is normal or if could mean an emotional/nutritional problem. Any suggestion? |

| First of all Welcome to YT. I would give him a few more days. Some are more timid than others, but he should show a little more of his true personality as the days go by. Please post pictures. We would love to see him.

| How long do you have him? He may need to acclimate himself to a new family.

| Give him some time. Piper was the same way when I got him at 3 years old, and it took about 2 months for him to decide it was okay to play with the toys we bought for him. Now we can't get him to slow down.

| Each Yorkie has an individual personality, just as humans. Charlie is more independent, rarely barks and Sophie was a "yapper", wanted to be constantly near my side. Relax and give him time to adjust. Warmly, Deborah

| I am glad to know there are other quiet yorkies out there. My GiGi is so quiet unless I go outside without her or she is accidently shut in my room. She is very affectionate but at the same time, she enjoys her quiet time.

| Glad you found YT! I adopted 2 yorkies at age 1 1/2 from someone who was overwhelmed by caring for them and a new baby. Bubba & Roxie were and are, even after more than 4 years with me, as different as night & day. Roxie wants to run & play & bark & chase squirrels & carry her toys everywhere nearly all day long. Bubba, well Bubba lives up to that name (& image of a good ole boy!) He's a couch potato, doesn't care about toys - except for a good chewy toy bone. He never barked, I bet for the 1st year I had him. Now he barks occassionally. Your new little guy may just be more laid back. Just love on him & his personality will shine thru! yorkiesmiles & Bubba & Roxie |

Tara is the usual Yorkie - full of beans, but only when she wants to be. Casper I got when he was 19 months...he is 4.5 now, and he was always quiet.....I think a lot of boys are....if I gave him a toy he would nibble it's ears so as to not hurt it ! He rarely bothers at all, even with raw-hide bones...he just wants petted all the time....he is sooo gentle and loving and very laid back. Tammy I got last October, and she has just turned 4. She is a demented hooligan ! We call her ASBO ! My girlies are both nutters, but my wee boy is just a gentle cheeky wee darling who can't get enough attention in the love stakes....he can't be bothered playing with toys, and only sometimes wants to chase the girlies in a game of tag. Your boy sounds like this - he will come out of himself a bit through time, but don't be surprised if he stays more gentle.....you can see Casper's nature in the pic below.
