Off leash yorkies,,,,do they exsist?

Actually if they are never leashed at home, they are miore likely to stay close by. However, it only takes one split second for them to dissappefar, so why would yhou want to risk it.

Otis is really bad about that. I take very precaution to make sure he is never exposed to "open air" meaning he can never get away from me. Luckily I have a large fenced in back yard. He does not know the come command and I think when he runs off like that, his nature takes over and he doesn't hear anything!!

Well in Allies case I'm not purposly letting her out. She takes off before we can stop her it's like she knows when any of us are even thinking of opening the front door and is ready to dart. I would like to have her out front with me sometimes when I'm doing yard work and NOT have to have her on a leash. My chi stays right with me and I know she'd never go to anyone else.

I have a girl who has figured out how to push open the bottom of my screen door and let herself out for a stroll. Her I have to put a leash on before the big door is opened. Now my little boy never wears a leash and always stays with me or comes when I call him.

I'm SO glad you posted this thread! I was worried there were no "off leash yorkies" out there. My bf was convinced that our yorkie would be safe off leash, even though we've only had him for a month, so my bf put him in his ungated front yard....and needless to say: OFF TOBI WENT! Tobi ran for 3 blocks before I could catch him. Everytime I called his name he only turned around and then ran away faster! That little devil!

Reading your quote, sounds like my house!! I have always had a problem with my Bell. When she has children (her children) she is some what better as she does run, but comes right back, still scares the hell out of me but at least I know I don't have to run after her. It did get better when we had the yard fenced in but that didn't last. My other two are angels when they get out, I just have to call and they come!

Mine are just now starting to stay with me in the yard.
I would love to have them just stay with me while I work out side but, they end up bolting.
I could never trust them off a leash while walking.

I wouldn't really risk letting mine off leash on walks or any where where I think harm could come to them.

They do know "come" and will do it very well when they are in their training classes or at the dog park. I can let go of their leashes when we are within a couple of houses away on the way back from walkies and they will stay right by me or run to the front door. But I will not do even that all the time.

For me, it is just too much of a risk --- there are cars, hawks, dog nappers and other evils out there. They can run around in the back yard unleashed.

You have to teach them to heal and come when called first once they can do that on a leash when ever you call them then you can start training them off leash in your him in a hallway or from room to room, but they have to know how to do it on a leash first. Ryo will sit when i tell him to so i do that when i am visiting neighbors off leash. Do it little by little. they especially need to also learn to do it WITH distractions as well, and know when you give them a commands they need to do it. I would never let mine off leash unless i was sure that he would obey me no matter what. His life is in my hands.

My Heidi was just terrible for running off when she was young she was such a tearaway! I have lost count of the amount of times she has escaped..she was so quick! But as she got older..and especially in the last few months of her life, she would never stray far from my heels..bless her..i miss her so much.

Yea right would I ever let Teddy off a leash LOL Just today when I took him for a walk I used the leash that expands and he went running all over the place Even if I call his name he doesn't listen cause he gets too excited. London prob. won't run away, Sophia follows me but still I wouldn't let either off the leash when outside here, there's too many cars

I have had Baxter for 4 months now and he has never been off the leash even in my front yard - which is fenced (but has spots he can get out) I don't even know if he would run - but I assume he would and I just can't imagine taking that chance. He did get away from me once with his leash - and he ran - but it was one of the leashes that are retractable - and the handle part looked like it was chasing him - so he ran for his life - I must say - that was pretty funny

oh there was something I forgot to mention in my last post. Something you can do is put her leash on, and tie it around a belt loop in your pants. Only for about 10-15 minutes/day. But it gets them used to being next to you.

My old puppy Bandit (rip) never had to use a leash. Well, only when we went for a walk, because we have a leash law in my town. But I could take him out front and never have to worry about him running off because all he did was follow me around.

With a lot of work and a lot of patience you can train her. Piper sits outside on the porch with me, and never moves an inch no matter who walks by.
