does it bother you when it's not a fullbreed yorkie?
 

I've never owned a furry pet of my own that doesn't need to be stuffed in a cage, so I'm ecstatic about my puppy, being able to roll it around, rub it, call its name and teach it all kinds of fun tricks.

Someone walked past our house today and was like 'OMG SO KYOTE' when she was playing with our dog, but after she noticed that my pup had a slight trait of Schnauzer on the face (her dad was fullbreed yorkshire, mother is yorkie 90%/schnauzer 10%), she was immediately turned off and showed a lack of interest.

She's definitely not the first person I've encountered with this attitude. There are countless others who would keep pointing out that my dog isn't a purebreed whenever they see it, even though I wasn't even asking for their input.

I could honestly care less if my dog is a purebreed or not, but I guess to some people it does matter because purebreed means profit from litters and being able to own a purebred Yorkshire, in some ways, puts one on a higher position when it comes to social status...the fact that one can actually afford to pay for one that would range from 1000$ to even 2500$ when the pup has parents that are registered and born to perfection.

I was fortunate enough to get one for free because my uncle's dog gave birth, but I don't think I would ever be able to own a dog of this small size if it wasn't for my uncle.

I'd really like to hear the opinions of others of people from this forum and how they feel on purebreed vs mixed breed Yorkshire Terriers.

What I noticed differently from the mother and the pup is that the mother has eyes that ... sorta PROTRUDE out of its head, making it more round and larger, while my pup has eyes that are set in and it doesn't look as big and has eyes that are almond shaped.

Saw your pups baby pics..very cute. No it doesn't bother me at all if a dog is purebred or not, they can all be loveable:) It's a dog's attitude and playfulness that I look for...for instance, I would not want a dog to be like that lady..LOL

Personally it doesn't bother me. I think it's rude of people to turn their noses up at a dog who isn't purebred when it isn't their dog. However we all have our preferences. I know when we began looking for a yorkie I wanted a purebred one because I was looking for that "yorkie look" and "yorkie personality". Getting a purebred ensured that for me. Yet, I wouldn't snub someone that had a baby that was mixed. That is just a rude individual. We have a chow/lab that we love to pieces and wouldn't trade for anything.

For myself, I prefer a purebred yorkie, only because I love the yorkie traits and personality. But, I certainly wouldn't treat someone or their dog differently just because he/she isn't a purebred. My little girl who passed away was yorkie/maltese, and I surely didn't love her any less for that.

It doesn't bother me in the least. Susanah is purebred and like the above poster said, it ensured me the yorkie look/personality that I so love. However, I absolutely in no way would EVER be rude or snub someone's baby who isn't. There are some members here who have yorkiemixes and their babies are just as beautiful and precious and loved as all the purebreds.

Pocky! I wanted to name her Tofu, Taro or Annihilator, but my little sister jumped in and wanted to name her after japanese candy sticks. I guess it was just a lot more suitable for the pup in the long run :)

There's lots of snobs out there - that was just rude what that woman did and people like that aren't worth stressing over

You sound kind of upset, and you shouldn't really let people bother you. My feeling is if you love your pup and it loves you thats all that matters. I think yours is adorable.

To some extent, it is upsetting when some people's attitude towards dogs change when they discover they're not purebreed. It's so discriminating. Either way, besides the slight rant, I actually wanted to know more about the opinions of other dog owners/breeders regarding mixed/pure breeds.

I understand that mixing some breeds could change their behavior or even complicate health issues, but would it be possible to have more positive effects, such as canceling out some of the health issues that yorkshires face?
But I guess even with positive traits it all depends on the physical appearance :)

as for red98vett's comment on caged furry animals, yes. My hamster has some kind of inhuman strength to get out of its cage and we'd sometimes lose her in the house just to find her in the back of the TV chewing up some component cables.

Only time you should care if its pure or not is when you are purchasing it, or when someone promises you a certain thing. People have a right to get what they paid for. People who are offering something have to be honest enough to tell the truth.

With that said once you have a dog of any kind and are aware of its lineage as long as you are happy with it who cares. I wouldn't worry to much about what people say these days. I noticed if they say something negative then Its mainly because they have something similar to what u have and feel the need to put you down in order to make themselves feel better.

If i didn't like full blooded Yorkies and like Silkies instead i wouldn't give a hoot what kinda dog you had, as long as we are both happy in the end and love our pets. That is all that matters

You know, I have had the opposite experience with my 3 mixes. 2 are yorkie mixes and one is a lhasa apso/bichon mix. I've always had people comment on "what is that", or oh, it's a "designer dog".. you are so LUCKY.

I always take the opportunity to comment that since more research on the "designer" breeds I don't recommend them, but people seem really interested about their unique looks. Or I get the people that have no idea what breed they are anyhow, LOL. Everyone always asks if my lhasa is a shih tzu because of her underbite hehe.
