does it bother you when it's not a fullbreed yorkie? I've never owned a furry pet of my own that doesn't need to be stuffed in a cage, so I'm ecstatic about my puppy, being able to roll it around, rub it, call its name and teach it all kinds of fun tricks. Someone walked past our house today and was like 'OMG SO KYOTE' when she was playing with our dog, but after she noticed that my pup had a slight trait of Schnauzer on the face (her dad was fullbreed yorkshire, mother is yorkie 90%/schnauzer 10%), she was immediately turned off and showed a lack of interest. She's definitely not the first person I've encountered with this attitude. There are countless others who would keep pointing out that my dog isn't a purebreed whenever they see it, even though I wasn't even asking for their input. I could honestly care less if my dog is a purebreed or not, but I guess to some people it does matter because purebreed means profit from litters and being able to own a purebred Yorkshire, in some ways, puts one on a higher position when it comes to social status...the fact that one can actually afford to pay for one that would range from 1000$ to even 2500$ when the pup has parents that are registered and born to perfection. I was fortunate enough to get one for free because my uncle's dog gave birth, but I don't think I would ever be able to own a dog of this small size if it wasn't for my uncle. I'd really like to hear the opinions of others of people from this forum and how they feel on purebreed vs mixed breed Yorkshire Terriers. For those who are curious, pictures of the mother and the pup can be found here. (You'll have to excuse the ungroomed mother, my uncle isn't the type of brush the dog all the time) http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...35&postcount=3 What I noticed differently from the mother and the pup is that the mother has eyes that ... sorta PROTRUDE out of its head, making it more round and larger, while my pup has eyes that are set in and it doesn't look as big and has eyes that are almond shaped. |
cute is cute Saw your pups baby pics..very cute. No it doesn't bother me at all if a dog is purebred or not, they can all be loveable:) It's a dog's attitude and playfulness that I look for...for instance, I would not want a dog to be like that lady..LOL Debbie Tea' +6 |
How rude! Personally it doesn't bother me. I think it's rude of people to turn their noses up at a dog who isn't purebred when it isn't their dog. However we all have our preferences. I know when we began looking for a yorkie I wanted a purebred one because I was looking for that "yorkie look" and "yorkie personality". Getting a purebred ensured that for me. Yet, I wouldn't snub someone that had a baby that was mixed. That is just a rude individual. We have a chow/lab that we love to pieces and wouldn't trade for anything. |
Awe, he is cute.. and soo tiny!! I don't care if its a fullbreed/ or mix. I want a puppy that I can just love on ALL the time! By the way, whats his name? |
For myself, I prefer a purebred yorkie, only because I love the yorkie traits and personality. But, I certainly wouldn't treat someone or their dog differently just because he/she isn't a purebred. My little girl who passed away was yorkie/maltese, and I surely didn't love her any less for that. |
It doesn't bother me in the least. Susanah is purebred and like the above poster said, it ensured me the yorkie look/personality that I so love. However, I absolutely in no way would EVER be rude or snub someone's baby who isn't. There are some members here who have yorkiemixes and their babies are just as beautiful and precious and loved as all the purebreds. |
Pocky! I wanted to name her Tofu, Taro or Annihilator, but my little sister jumped in and wanted to name her after japanese candy sticks. I guess it was just a lot more suitable for the pup in the long run :) |
He sure is cute. People can be so rude. Aren't you glad our babie don't really understand bad attitudes!! |
There's lots of snobs out there - that was just rude what that woman did and people like that aren't worth stressing over but question - what did this mean ? Quote:

You sound kind of upset, and you shouldn't really let people bother you. My feeling is if you love your pup and it loves you thats all that matters. I think yours is adorable. |

your puppy is beautiful and soooo precious. tina |

I understand that mixing some breeds could change their behavior or even complicate health issues, but would it be possible to have more positive effects, such as canceling out some of the health issues that yorkshires face? But I guess even with positive traits it all depends on the physical appearance :) as for red98vett's comment on caged furry animals, yes. My hamster has some kind of inhuman strength to get out of its cage and we'd sometimes lose her in the house just to find her in the back of the TV chewing up some component cables. |
Only time you should care if its pure or not is when you are purchasing it, or when someone promises you a certain thing. People have a right to get what they paid for. People who are offering something have to be honest enough to tell the truth. With that said once you have a dog of any kind and are aware of its lineage as long as you are happy with it who cares. I wouldn't worry to much about what people say these days. I noticed if they say something negative then Its mainly because they have something similar to what u have and feel the need to put you down in order to make themselves feel better. If i didn't like full blooded Yorkies and like Silkies instead i wouldn't give a hoot what kinda dog you had, as long as we are both happy in the end and love our pets. That is all that matters |
You know, I have had the opposite experience with my 3 mixes. 2 are yorkie mixes and one is a lhasa apso/bichon mix. I've always had people comment on "what is that", or oh, it's a "designer dog".. you are so LUCKY. I always take the opportunity to comment that since more research on the "designer" breeds I don't recommend them, but people seem really interested about their unique looks. Or I get the people that have no idea what breed they are anyhow, LOL. Everyone always asks if my lhasa is a shih tzu because of her underbite hehe. |
I was looking for a purebred but ended up falling for Bella first :p She's yorkie/pomeranian. I haven't had any comments on her other than 'she's so cute!' ;) |
Your puppy is it's own-self and they are all unique and lovable whatever breed they are ! I have 3 Yorkies and a Bearded Collie at the moment, and all are pure-bred. Our last Bearded Collie was a cross, and she was my soul-mate for 12 years. You couldn't have gotten a kinder more thoughtful dog. I don't like to compare - but as you asked, our current Beardie Tasha is too highly pedigreed, and this spoils her nature in comparison to my last Beardie cross Trixie. Tasha is a very nervous dog and has a side to her. Trixie was/is an angel....literally. My pure-bred Yorkies are all good and Tara has to be the one who really steals my heart in the same way my Beardie cross did. As I said, they are all special in different ways, and cross or not, they are unique and special beings :D :animal-pa Debra x x x x :aimeeyorkTARA :aimeeyorkCASPER :aimeeyorkTAMMY :animal36TASHA |
I love all dogs no matter what, My sister has a mixed, maltese/ yorkie and he is a doll, she did pay way to much for him without knowing he was mixed, but we love him so much we look past that, she finally just got her full blooded yorkie last week, and she is thrilled but does not love him anymore then the next, why cant people just be nice:confused: |
It doesn't bother me at all. I think lots of the mixed-breed yorkies are really cute, have good temperments, and might possibly have some good traits our purebreds don't have-like being more easily potty trained, for example! I admit, I have asked a couple people if their dogs were purebred/if they were yorkies before-but not because I was turning my nose up at all. Yorkies come in so many sizes, colors, and "looks" that sometimes it's hard to tell, and I'm truly interested in what breed their dogs are. We had a neighbor that had a silky-but looked very much yorkie, only bigger. I also ran into a lady at Petco that had a dog that looked like a yorkie, only it was really curly-but it was purebred. She too thought it was a yorkie-poo when she got him, but found out that he was indeed purebred. I had never heard of a chocolate yorkie or a biewer until I got on here-and I definitely would have asked those owners about their dogs' breeds too :) But, I think it's all in how you present it and ask the question. |
Why do peoples always referred a purebred dog as full blood ? I've never seen an empty blood one . |
I have a full yorkie and an shih-poo. People think they are both yorkies even though my shih-poo looks nothing like a yorkie!!! I don't think it's anyones beez wax if your baby isn't 100 percent yorkie. It's your baby, that's all that matters!!! |

It doesn't make a difference to me either. And I think some people get carried away their rude mouths! I just don't get people. sorry for ranting, but had a bad day and didn't mean to get off the subject!;) I love all dogs. Your baby is a real cutie too! Can't wait to see more pictures! |
I don't like the breeders breeding so called designer dogs... Too many dogs in the pound now... Many just do it to make money as they don't have to think when they do it and there is no thought process when they do, only $$$$$$$ signs.. How many pups can you get out of a Doxy and a Yorky cross... for example.. Once the dogs are born, who can't but love them. This is what these so called breeder count on. The pups don't know the nut cake that decided they were to be born.. They should be treated just as well as any other dog.. My self I'd save for a yr to buy a pure bred if I had to.. When you buy a dog like this it just permotes the breeding of more of them.. No one has the right to snub your dog... But not the case for the breeder:( |
Let me clarify my last post. I don't think it's wrong to ask someone what breed a dog is, however it is wrong to get an attitude when they find out your dog isn't purebred. We have had our lab/chow for 5 years and thankfully I've never came across that. Your baby and baby's mother is adorable by the way.:p |
I guess some people are very elitist and anthing less than perfect isn't good enough. Personally, I don't give a damn about pure-bred vs mixed. In my case, I needed a purebreed as I'm highly allergic to all other dogs I've encountered. Miraculously, I have no issues with yorkies. But I was afraid that a yorkie mix might still make me sick so I had no choice. But if it wasn't for allergies, I probably would have brought home one of the many yorkie mixes from a rescue. |
Well, unless you told your neighbor that she was a purebred yorkie then what she did was entirely rude. Some people are just snotty like that. I know that I've had friends that have considered spending $1,000+ for yorkies that looked like they were mixed with something and I told them exactly what I thought about the dog they wanted to buy....BUT, that is for a friend and only when my opinion was asked. I also had a friend that repeatedly pointed out that my MIL's chihuahua wasn't a pure chihuahua. Um, hello...she only paid $100 for her and she KNEW she wasn't a purebred. Some just like to throw it in your face...as if to make themselves feel superior. You love your furbaby and that's all that matters. It wasn't like you spent thousands on her...she was a precious gift from your uncle. Dismiss your neighbor and her ignorance. She's the one missing out on getting to know such a sweet pup! |
Your puppy is quite a cutey. Your neighbor on the other is crude and rude. Better spend your time with the puppy!!! |
NO, it does NOT bother me when it's not a purebred yorkshire terrier. It DOES, however, bother me when I see pet stores that clearly sell yorkie mixes, but claim them as pure bred yorkies (but that's a whole other can of worms). I think Pocky is ADORABLE! I'm sorry you had the unfortunate experience of having to listen to some imbeciles verbal diarrhia. |
Mixed breed dogs don't bother me...I love them! And yours is sure a cutie! :D But I don't like people breeding mixed breed dogs, and I don't like people buying them for ridiculous sums of money. |
