| YT 500 Club Member | I have been a cat person since I was a very small child. I remember my grandmother, on the farm, letting me pick out my first kitten and bringing it home when it was probably too young to wean. I also had a dog when I was young, and we were best friends. But after he disappeared, at the age of ten, we got another one. It was really my mom's dog, and I was never close to a dog again until Sophie, my Yorkie. I am now 55. I think that I fell in love with Yorkies because I feel they are more like cats, opinionated, always wondering what's in it for them, and because of their size. They are easy to pick up and cuddle. I don't think I would like a dog that smells or that I couldn't hold on my lap.

| I've noticed that people that prefer cats over dogs are more independent and love to be on the go more. My best friend in the whole world is a major cat lover. She just isn't interested in house training a dog and even having one in the house. She spends more time going here and there than she does in her house. She doesn't like being tied down. Having a cat suits her lifestyle. I know a few school teachers that have only cats because their lifestyle is so busy and even when they come home they continue to grade papers and get set up for the next day. I haven't met anyone who has cats and doesn't like dogs though. I've never had a cat simply because my husband and sons are very allergic to them. I suppose even if they weren't, I still wouldn't have one because I think it's cruel to keep them inside all their lives, and cruel to let them outside to roam. |

| Why would you think it's cruel to keep them inside their whole life? Cats don't need to go out and potty like dogs do and they have everything they need inside. My cats eat, sleep, potty, and play all inside the house. They do like to sit by the window and watch what's going on outdoors but they aren't missing anything by not being outside. The only purpose to letting a cat go outside is to risk it being hurt, poisoned, or killed. Outside cat do not last long. Believe me..I've had several outside cats growing up and they never live long.

| I think it all depends on from where you come. Until 11 months or so ago, I was 100% cat person. I would have insisted that cat people are nicer to be around. I could not possibly have understood what it was like having a dog, because I didn't. I never wanted a dog, thinking they were too much work, having to pick up poo all the time. The thought! (It never bothered me to scoop the litter boxes twice daily and clean fur log messes from the carpet.) I had and still have four cats. What 11 months will do. Now, I would have to say it is tied. I find cat people just as nice as dog people. Some are not so nice either! I find that dog people are just part of a different culture than cat people. Each are unique and special in their own way.

| My older cat doesn't really do much but sleep all day. My younger one "hunts" her toys during the day..it's pretty cute to watch. I just make sure I leave plenty of toys all over the house for her to play with. I think a good option if you really want to give your cats outside time is to train them to walk on a harness and leash. I've seen a few cats that love to go for walks. I have Himalayans (persians) which are known for being lazier so I doubt they'd like it but higher energy cats would. I do think because they are high prey-driven animals, that is another reason to keep them inside as a lot of people don't like to see outside cats killing off birds and such.

| My Husband and I use to be cat people we had 4 cats 1 Himilayan and 3 domestic When the cats started dying we got the yorkes. We now only have 1 cat left and shes old. Now since having dogs I would never be without a yorkie. I think I am a kinder person since getting them. I think dog people are more laid back and just fun loving people. I dont know if dog people are kinder than cat people but I beleve people who have pets are kinder than people who dont.. I find people who arent pet lovers to be manipulative people. Maybe thats just my experience
