| Need ideas for dog friendly vacation/anniversary get away We live in Indiana and this year I don't want to have to leave Gracie or Hallee with my mother. Last year we did and she took great care of them, but I constantly worried about them: did they pick something up off the floor and choke, did my mom let them fall down the stairs by forgetting to put the gate up, did they leave the door open for one of them to run outside, are they eating enough. It could go on and on the things I worry about. This year I told hubby they were going with us so we should start planning and doing some research. I just feel more comfortable when I know what they are doing, keeping them in my sight. Any ideas or suggestion if you have taken your yorkie/s with you on vacation?

| You didn't say much of what you preferred. Willing to fly? If not, how far by car? Warm or cold? Beach or something with more things to do? How long do you wanna go away for? This summer I am taking my dogs with me on vacation to Rehoboth Beach, Delaware (and staying at a nearby beach). We found a pet-friendly condo that we are renting directly from the owner. It's a very dog-friendly area, and the beach that we are staying at allows dogs during certain hours of the day. We went there last summer and they loved it. There were a lot of things to do. The condo has a balcony so we'll eat some meals there and go out the eat other nights. Last edited by BubblPopElectrc; 07-21-2007 at 09:40 PM. |

| I second that! The Monterey/Carmel area is beautiful, lots to do and see and quite dog friendly. I used to live about an hour from Monterey and I'd take Bridget there all the time. |

| If you like the Eastern Coast there's lots of beach rentals that are dog friendly. We have gone to the Jersey Shore and as far down as the Outer Banks in North Carolina with our babies.

| South Bass Island (Lake Erie) - Off the shore of Sandusky, Ohio. I don't know what lodging is available that accepts dogs. We stayed at the campground at Cedarpoint and took the jetboat to the Island. Shelby & Seymour had a great time. It is a small place, but has a big park right downtown that is great to spend the day relaxing, watching the boats come in to the marina. We did not have our stroller yet and it really would have been handy.... but we rented a golf cart and it was a lot of fun touring around the island on it.

| If you are interested in going to the Caribbean, St. Thomas or St. John are good options. Since they are a US Territory, it is the same as traveling in the States, just need a health certificate and there is no quarantine. I live on St. John, and I know the Westin is dog friendly, they will even bring you a little "heavenly bed" for your pup!
