| How do barking collars work? Im a new yorkie owner, my baby is 5 months old, and barks when I leave her area. When I go upstairs to take a shower, or answer the phone she barks like crazy. But how do the collars work?

It's a Yorkie Thing Donating Member | Collars either shock the wearer when they bark or spray into the face of the wearer. Neither of which I would want to do to my baby. search for the thread here that shows the teenage boy using the shock collar on himself. You'll think twice before using one.

| My Remy has to wear a spray collar, she is a loud obnoxious barker and shes only 4 1/2 lb ! Seriously I had to do something my one neighbour filed a noise complaint against me and I had the city bylaw officer at my door, he took one look at Remy and gave me a warning but the next time will be a hefty fine. The spray doesnt hit her in the face it sprays up in front of her and startles her, It has been very effective in curbing the barking and in time I hope not to have to use it any more .Remy is now six months old and she has been wearing the collar since she was three months. | I find that when I have to take a shower, Paddington barks a lot. I started putting him in his kennel and covering it up with a quilt (much like you would do with a bird cage)He doesn't bark when I do that. he really gets quiet. I think he goes to sleep because it is so dark and cozy in there. I have a friend at work that used a spray collar on her pug and it didn't do anything- she ended up evicted because of his barking! I guess it just depends on the dog!!! Just PLEASE don't use shock collars! They are so inhumane! -O

| I think they work by the vibration of the vocal cords when they bark. I would never use a shock collar on a dog. I did see the video and it was very disturbing. I dont think I would use the spray either because have they really tested it for long term effects to say it is safe? |

| Re: your input about collars Thanks so much about the info regarding collars. Thinking about it, my boobah doesnt bark that much, Im not going to put a collar on her...I think also I need to walk her. I havent taken her outside yet, I need to drain some of that energy of hers. We need to go to the park together and walk! Tks!
