| Poor Gwen! Have you taken her to the vet? I have read that they can't actually treat the kennel cough itself, bc its a virus, so it usually has to "run its course" but they will treat with Clavamox or other antibiotic to reduce the risk of a secondary respiratory infection. We are thinking of you!

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | I'm sorry she's sick....that's a shame... but if she DOES have it - you can treat it ...Is she sick with something else or are you only hearing a cough ? Hopefully they will look at her trachea also if you bring her in - Good luck to your little one - I'm sorry she's having such trouble ...it's hard to see them hacking away. |

| Bella had Kennel cough real bad when she came to us....She was on antibiotics for about 3 1/2 weeks, she still coughed for about 2 more weeks after that. Have you ahd it checked? The antibiotics do work but my vet said sometimes it takes a long time to get it all out of their system!!

| kennel cough I must be getting old but I could have sworn mine got a vaccination for kennel cough, anyone else have their pets vaccinated for this condition? Mine have never had kennel cough, I seem to remember my vet asking if they would ever need boarding and if so, to get this shot, which I did. |

| I just looked this up for Julz (had it in my clipboard) My pups had kennel cough at 8-9 weeks, I think they got it at the vet when they went in for their checkup. We used Robitussin DM. Kennel Cough; (Tracheal Bronchitis). Symptoms of Kennel Cough are a dry hacking cough and a shortness of breath. Kennel cough is quite common, almost as common as the human cold. It is cuased by a combination of stress and temperature variations. Although the cough may sound threatening, it is treatable with medication. Consult a vet if your pup shows signs of Kennel Cough. NOTE: Kennel Cough can remain in the puppy's system anywhere from five days to several weeks. ((treatment is Robitussin-DM, Benadryl, and or Clavamox Antibiotic)If you can give shots, you can almost always eliminate the coughing by getting a bottle of "Tyland 50" from any farm store. Give 1/2 cc shot under the skin in the morning and at night for several days. Don't inject in the same area more than twice. Once the cough is gone, ocntinue the shots for a few more days just to make sure.

| Mine received the bordatella vaccine as well, but it is not a failsafe.... there are some strains of kennel cough that they arent protected from... its just like the flu shot... there are some strains that you are protected against...
