Ok, this might be a different type of chat to start, but I'm curious on how much you all paid for your yorkie? Did size matter with what you paid for your yorkie? I've got 2 yorkies and I paid a big difference between the 2, but I also feel the sizes are going to be a big difference too. How much do you sell your yorkie pups for, those of you who breed? Just really curious on how much they go for in other areas. Remember to post where you're from too, so I can see the differences in location.

I'm from Missouri, in the USA. I sold my pups back in May: Male: $400, Female: $450. The pups will get about 8-9 lbs full grown. Some have already reached that size. The mom and dad to the pups (which we have the mom) are both around 9 lbs.

I paid $350 for our female yorkie 2 1/2 years ago, and she is 9 lbs now. We just got another yorkie from another breeder, and we paid $700 for her, but she is really tiny. She's not quite 2 lbs yet, and 13 weeks old.

wow, im looking at prices because i want a yorkie and i have been unable to find anything for less that $800 :eek: and most of the yorkies in this area go for $1000-1500 :eek: :eek: ..... i guess location makes a difference as well huh? if you sell youres for $400 i think i need to drag my butt out to missouri to get one form you........lol
Oh, and one more thing, i have noticed that breeders raise their prices at certain times of the year :mad: (and now that i want to get a yorkie it is one of those times!!!), but i guess it is their buissness and that is how they make their money (im sorry if i offended you, if you do youre buissness this way :D )

I had a hard time spending $700 on our tiny yorkie. We have 4 children (all boys), so I had a hard time spending that kind of money on a pet. But it's been sooooo worth it!!! :) She's such a blessing. I found a few other breeders about 4 hours away from me that sells the small ones for $800. Where are you from orinskye? If you're looking for a yorkie around Muffy's size, we're hoping to breed her as soon as she goes into heat again, which should be within the next 12 weeks or so.

You didn't offend me at all. I think it's crazy how breeders raise their rates too, but being a new breeder, I know that people will pay more for them around Christmas time. Maybe hand on until the new year, and you might get one a bit cheaper. They are so worth the money!!! But there's no way I'd spend over what I did for our little one. Too hard not knowing how long they'll live and so on. That's alot of $$ to invest.

I live in Orange County California........ so everything that is 'trendy' is pretty much expensive in this area... unfortunatly the little dogs (around here anyways) are treated more like a fashion excessory (which is another reason why they cost so much). I think im pretty much going to take my time and let teh right yorkie come to me, i really want to find one in this area because shipping is expensive. I cant believe how much these little guys cost, i was online and i saw one for $10,000 :eek:
lol....... my first question is: WHO IN TEH WORLD WOULD PAY THAT MUCH?!!! (especially when they can get them for cheaper)

That is totally crazy!! I would NEVER pay that kind of $$ for a dog. Probably not for much. lol I guess there's alot of people out there that have tons of $$ and nothing else to do with it, huh?? lol Good luck finding one. If I'm ever out that way, I'll let you know. At one point, we were going to go to Phoenix, AZ next summer, but I think our plans have changed and decided to go to South Carolina to the beach instead. lol

Hope God provides an awesome yorkie for you, and soon too. I know how it is waiting. Not fun. I'm a very impatient person when it comes to wanting something and not being able to get it yet. lol

yeah i know how it is, im impatient as well..... but they way i figure, if i am patient enough then i wont end up paying an arm and a leg... and if im REALLY patient a friend of my boyfriends might give me a pup for VERY low cost ( he breeds yorkies apparantly)... so ill just cross my fingers and hope :p ..... yes if you are ever out here please keep me posted, i would greatly appreciate it

Did you say $400?!?!?! Wow that is a GREAT price!! Around here (Long Island, New York), you can BARELY find one for less than $1000. You really have to do your research and word of mouth helps alot if you want to pay less than that. I wound up taking a chance and calling a breeder that had advertised in the paper. I got my Dolce for $850, and that is only because when I called they told me they had puppies that wouldnt get any bigger than 4-5 lbs. for $750. I thought i had hit the jackpot!! So when we got there he said that they had all been sold (I found out that I talked to 2 different guys, and they hadnt communicated). Anyway, there was a little one left, and as soon as we saw her we HAD to have her. Of course she wasn't $750, but we told him we had sat in traffic for hours and we thought they had them for that price. He felt sorry for us, and agreed to give her to us for $850. They were SUPER nice, giving us food and nutrical and a bunch of other goodies as well. She was only 8 weeks old at the time and she is now 16 weeks. She weighed about 11 oz. at first, and now she is about 2 lb. 7 oz. Wow, that was long-winded!! Sorry about that!! Yorkies definitely go for way over $1000 out here though....wish I lived in Missouri when we were on the hunt for a Yorkie!!! :D

I bought Adina for $1,150 she was 4 months old and weighed 2.9 lbs. I had wanted a yorkie for the longest time but it was the time of year my hubby doesn't work. (he works 6 months then has 6 months off lol) So as soon as he started working I started calling people on the paper the man I bought her from drove 1 hr. to meet me. I had so many problems with her health the first 2-3 weeks, I called him to complain he said he would make things good (exchange I guess) but there was no way she would go back there. I bought another yorkie about 3 weeks ago for $500 Joy is going to be 5 years old and weighs 6.6 lbs. Well I got a surprise with her. The lady I bought her from owns a male yorkie 2 1/2 lbs. Well I guess he managed to get her pregnant before I bought her. So now It's like I got 3 yorkies for $500. :D Joy might not be able to stay here after she has the puppies because of the fights between her and my chihuahua. I am going to wait to see if the aggression is from her being pregnant. The money I get from the puppies will be used to get her spayed, my friend is going to keep her she has been coming over a lot so Joy can get used to her.

What is the saying "Good things come to those that wait" I took me months before I got each of mine. Make sure you see were the puppies come from, because alot of time when they want to meet you some place they are a puppy mill. If you take your time you will save in the long run and not get a unhealthy puppy. I know people get puppies from pet stores and puppy mill and there puppies are fine and loving puppies, but when you buy from places like that you keep them in business and it is so sad how they treat the dogs. I could go on and on about this, just know were your puppy come from. Post a thread about finding a good breeder in California and there might be member on the site that can help you out...........Cindy

Our breeder was offered that for our Toto's Mom!! Two guys from France made the offer and she turned them down!! :eek: You would have to really labor over a decision like that .... NOT ... I wouldn't sell Toto for a hundred times that!!! ;)

Ok call me crazy I guess, my Peaches was around 850.00 and Omar was closer to 1500.00. Now before you think I have lost it, Peaches had all her shots etc and she is 6.2 pounds (small) and Omar is what they call "blue and silver and is about 6.8 pounds, also had all his shots and was neutered. I often ask myself if I am crazy to have spent such a big amount of money but it is like my husband said, you work hard and you love them and that is all that matters. I am an office manager in a physician office and I do medical billing at home as well as a weekend cleaning job we do as a family. I see so many sad cases at work each day where young people are diagnosed with cancer etc....I count my blessings of health and a good husband and son and figure there is no point spending your life always not getting what you want. My family always comes first and my babies are just two more "kids" to me. I say if you can afford it, a yorkie (or any other pet) actually adds to the quality of your life and reduces stress.

yes yorkie mom........ reduced stress......... i am one of those people that NEEDS a dog, not one of those that just 'wants' one. I lost my golden retriever on september 11th and i didnt realize how much not having a dog effected me. It was my boyfriend who first noticed how depressed and unresponsive i was to the stuff that used to make me laugh. He had me babysit his friends yorkie for a week, and that has been the happiest week since september :) after that i was hooked on the yorkie breed, i bellieve very much that the dog chooses the owner (i am not like my boyfriend who goes and buys the first thing he , it will happen sooner or later.
Oh and i didnt mean to offend anyone by the comment "who would pay that much for a dog" because honestly speaking, i would pay that much if i could get my dog back

Thanks to all of you who responded to my post. It is very interesting to see what yorkies go for around the US or even in other countries. I have to say though, I'm very blessed with what I paid for with my yorkies. I think our little one that we paid $700 for will only reach about 4-4.5 lbs, if that. The one we paid $350 for is 9 lbs. It's so neat hearing from you all. I really enjoyed reading all the posts. I don't mind anyone getting "winded" when they post either, because it's interesting to me to hear all the details. lol

I sell my puppies for 850 for males and 950 for females for pet quality pups, if the puppy is going to a show home 1600 is the price. When my pups leave they have had all their shots, they have been chipped, and they have had the bile acid test so that I know I am giving out a healthy pup. My contract also says that if for any reason you can not keep the dog it is to be returned to me, no matter how long you have had it. On pet quality I do not make much, after having them have all shots, chipped, tested there is not much profit at all, but a good home is more important.

mmyorkies: I wish all breeders were as good and honorable as you are! Do you get many returns?

A little birdy tells me that around here (Seattle, WA), Yorkies are from $800 to $1200 or so...

I can't remember how much exactly I paid for Otis, but I think it was in the 800-900 range. I flew down to Los Angeles, and paid his breeder in cash in the airport parking lot garage!! I felt like I was doing some drug deal!! But I had to pay for a roundtrip ticket to Los Angeles plus 50 bucks so I could bring Otis on the plane, so it ended up being well over $1,000 in the long run....and worth every penny!

This was five years ago, before people like Paris Hilton and Jessica Simpson were toting around toy dogs like a fashion accessory, and jacked up the prices of small breed dogs.

No, but I have just started breeding and I keep the ones that I can show. I do not breed to sell, but to get my own show dogs, and the ones that don't measure up are sold as pets.

wow mmyorkies.... youre prices are a little high, but i understand where the cost comes from because of youre price breakdown..... People really have to do their homework, not everyone is as responsible as a breeder as you are... many in this area are sold for $1,000 plus AND they dont have chips or bile tests on them.... A++++ for youre breeding practices ;)

Sorry if I'm late to the conversation - just saw this thread. I live in Texas and bought Tatum for $950. That is pretty average for around here - from what I checked out. She's almost 10 months old and weighs 3.5 pounds. We are really pleased with the "quality of dog" we seem to have gotten but most of all, she's such a doll that we can't help but love her no matter what she looks like. It sounds so cold to put it that way ("quality of dog"). After hearing some of the stories about Yorkies getting much bigger than someone wanted or having health problems, I'm really grateful that our purchase has turned out to be such a good one. I have to admit I was not so knowledgeable about all the things that could go wrong with getting a Yorkie but I knew the basic things to look for. We love Tatum to bits and wouldn't trade her for the world!

So neat about your little girl. So, how big was she around 12 weeks old? I'm really curious on how big my little one will get. She's right @ 2 lbs and she's 14 weeks old. She was 1 lb. 13 oz @ 12 weeks old. I'm going to take her to the vet on Saturday to see how much she weighs. She's like having a child. They are so much fun!!! Thanks for posting.

I'd have to check her vet records at home but if I remember right, when I was doing the calculation for what is "supposed" to be the future weight, she weighed about the same as yours at 12 weeks. Whatever it was, I figured that according to the calculations I had, she should get to be about 3.5 pounds. I can't remember the calculations I heard but I think it was double their weight at 12 weeks to get adult weight (can anyone else confirm that??). But of course that is an estimation and can sometimes be completely wrong. In our case, it seems to have worked.

It's funny though because even as small as she is (and she's not the tiniest I've seen either), she is so full of spunk! We live in the country and she would spend every second outside (until it rained anyway) if we'd let her. She loves to play with the cats and kittens and they love her right back. Her little size is definitely misleading!

I could've upgraded my car!! :) But, one look at this little "baby doll" face sleeping next to me and my decision was simple!! Toto is without a doubt the best decision we have ever made ... she is our joy!!! ;) When I dropped by our accountant's to pick up our 2003 tax returns, our accountant took one look in my bag and his reaction was absolutely "a Kodak moment"!! I had listed her as a "line item" and the final total even surprised me! ;) He said "THAT'S Toto?? Somehow I thought there would be more of her"!! ;)

Ranger came to us at a whopping $350!! He was suposed to be $500+ but the lady had failed to mention he had flees so I complained and she knocked the price down. For some reason she never mailed us his papers and her phone is now disconnected :confused: Oh well we love Ranger no matter what and just glad he's a healthy growing boy!

But is he full blooded yorkie? Seems a little different in looks. But I'm also learning that is so common with yorkies. With have 2 now of my own and they look different from each other.

I would've loved to see that person's face when you did that. You were able to write off your dog? How and what did you do? Just wondering because I have to have someone to our taxes because of babysitting. Didn't know if that was something I could add in. I don't plan on breeding her though.

We don't even know anymore. She showed us a copy of the parents' papers and it showed they were AKC registered and had their names. She was supposed to receive the puppies papers in the mail, but then she moved and she claimed they got lost in the mail. Once she got them she would send them to us, but after two weeks and no word I called and the number was disconnected.

The vet didn't even ask me what breed he was, he automaticlly put Yorkie. So I just kept assuming he was a Yorkie, but no matter what we're still happy with him :) .

How you write off Toto in your taxes? You said you list Toto as a " line item " ?

:o Sorry ... even though I listed her instead of simply putting her in with miscellaneous ... he said he couldn't use her as a deduction!! :) I do that sometimes out of curiousity about particular expenses, knowing that he can't use them for taxes, I just like to know exactly what we spent for what! Did I mention that our accountant is a very patient man?? ;)

Ranger looks like a yorkie to me, what seems different about him is that his ears are not standing, which I have seen on a lot of yorkies. The person you got him from probably never evn applied for the papers because it costs to register a litter. It is not too much, but if they wanted only to make money, they don't even bother, and her disappearing with no phone number kind of gives the impression she was not really up to par, but all that matters is that your baby is healthy and you are happy with him.

i think ranger is an adorable yorkie, i actually like teh ears down better then i like them up ;) he reminds me of the "bear in teh big blue house"....lol
