| Banfield Pet Hospital/ Petsmart?? I took Tinkerbell and Chiquito to update their annual shots(rabies only) and I called ahead of time to find out the price, they said on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2-4pm it's only 12.95 and no doctor's fee. So today is tuesday and I arrived there at 2:10 pm and when they go to see them, they are very nice and all and while we are there the doc checks everything like their teeth and all. Well I started to talk about Tinkerbell's itching and how it is getting worse and he does a really good job at checking her and he thinks it might be mange???? and needs to do a scraping of her skin and the nurse starts to say how their nails are super long and she would like to do a "pedicure"(sp?) so I am thinking to myself, how much is this going to cost me?? and she is already on $256.00 and that is not including the doc's fee I was not expecting to spend that much so I told them I would have to reschedule for that They both looked at me like i was crazy. When I went to check out it was 89.00??? I was like for what? for 2 rabies shots?? OMG. They are crazy I told her I was told on tuesdays and thrusdays there was no doc fee,. and she tell me, Yes but only between 2-4pm, It was 3:45p.m. I made them take the charge off and only paid 30.75 Was that really too much for just a skin scrapping??

| thats ridiculous(sp.). Some doctors do like to do "extra" things so they can charge extra and raise your bill. IMO that's ALOT of money for someone to just scrap the skin.... Im glad you said you'd wait...... but thats just my opinion......

| If I was going to pay that much for a skin scraping, I would prefer it being done by a Veterinary Dermotologist! Good Luck....hope your baby is OK!

| I hope so too! Poor baby...hope she feels better soon. I don't know what those procedures cost, but it does sound high to me.

| One of my coworkers recently took her dogs to Banfield because she thought they'd be one of the cheaper ones in town. Anyway, turned out one of her dogs was positive for heartworms. They told her what all needed to be done and had tons and tons of extra things that weren't neccessary and were going to charge her almost twice the amount that she ended up paying at another vet for the treatment. I'm not about skimping on vet care, but sometimes some places do overcharge and do very unneccesary things...

| My old vet,(very expensive) 60.00 just for the visit, she thought Oliver had demodectic mange. He had ONE small spot on his neck of hairloss and it was slightly darkened. He did not scratch and it was NOT red. I did extensive internet research on all the different types of mange and I was convinced that was NOT what he had, but I'm not a vet. So finally I relented and she did a skin scraping. The first one wasn't that bad. Oliver did ok. She sent the tech back in the room because they did not see mange on the scraping. The tech said she was going to scrape AGAIN. I reluctantly agreed. Oliver likes to be held straight up with his paws and head on my shoulder so I held him like that while the tech did ANOTHER scrape. This time she went deeper and it hurt my boy so bad he actually pee'd on me. Poor baby. But the moral of the story is.... He did NOT have mange, she gave him a round of steroids and some spray and it went right away. I refused to pay for the scrape because I was against the idea all along and it was VERY expensive, not to mention Oliver had to endure it twice just because she was so sure of her diagnosis. I don't remember how much. I know they have to rule things out, I just wonder why the small dose of steroids wasn't their first treatment option. I don't go to this vet anymore. Sorry this is long.
