One of my coworkers recently took her dogs to Banfield because she thought they'd be one of the cheaper ones in town. Anyway, turned out one of her dogs was positive for heartworms. They told her what all needed to be done and had tons and tons of extra things that weren't neccessary and were going to charge her almost twice the amount that she ended up paying at another vet for the treatment. I'm not about skimping on vet care, but sometimes some places do overcharge and do very unneccesary things...

Purchasing from backyard breeders, pet shops, and puppymills perpetuates the suffering of other dogs.
Educate yourself and buy from reputable breeders or rescue.
