Some people are just rude too. When Lacy was a puppy and going through her awkard stage (ears just standing up and too big for her head LOL) this lady tried to tell me she thought Lacy was part schnauzer because her legs were long. This lady breeds schnauzers, min pins, yorkies, and maybe some other things...she's your typical back yard breeder. I was really offended because I was sensitive about my new baby..especially during her awkward time...but then I saw some of the yorkies she had bred and I was thinking...my yorkie looks SO much better than yours HaHa Lacy was at least proportionate (long legs, long body)..her dogs have long bodies and short legs...maybe her yorkies are part Dachshund! Hmm...I think I'm still bitter LOL As you can see from her picture in my avatar, she is in no way part schnauzer. Some people are just dumb and rude..she was probably just mad because neither I or my parents got our yorkies from her

Oddly enough, I've got the same thing said to me..

The same day I got Bobby, I was at my mother's house in Florida & one of her friend's asked me if Bobby was mixed with a schnauzer or something else I can't remember. I was offended and said no of course!

Look at his pictures, I don't see it! LOL

Let's go, let's take the teapot club to her house to poop on her lawn! Bubba, all 12lbs of him and Sissy, all 9 of her. I had a lady in a pet store say to me the other day, "oh, they are so precious, that's the way I think yorkies should look"
p.s. mother in law comments don't count

Well I think Lacy is the prettiest schnauzer I've ever seen!

Susanah's legs are long and her ears are too big and still floppy. Half of her hair is still doing that sticky outy puppy thing, the other half is trying to lay down like a grown up. She's just a mess right now. She is still beautiful to me.

You're right, she is going to be GORGEOUS when she grows up. Her hair is just so beautiful now, once she gets her adult coat WOW!

Thanks everyone for making me feel better.

Don't let her upset you, your baby is gorgeous.

I used to get those remarks a lot with my little old lady, especially at a nearby seaside resort where lots of retired people live. She's 9lb & I love her to bits. Unfortunately she isn't up to going out much these days as she's old & not great health wise.
But I feel proud to have such a beautiful girl. She's in great proportion, was always fit & active, her coat has always been amazing, very silky & reaches the floor without having to bother with all that crackering palaver & she has the prettiest face. That's her picture on my avatar.

I've two puppies as well now, 9 months & 4 months. They are smaller but I'll be surprised if they grow such wonderful coats.

Default Just Ignore The Comments

Some people are just plain rude. Judging by the comments made by her, she surely is not yorkie educated. My little 4 month old yorkie, Boo Bah,
is just as cute as can be and a neighbor made a snide remark about her. I just ignored her like I didn't hear her. At other times, when Im crossing the boulevard with boo bah, people in their cars honk and yell out "how cute" and for safety's sake I keep walking of course. When I first brought her home about 3 weeks ago, she was very sheepish and withdrawn. I guess it was because of her surroundings. She was getting accustomed to them.
But as far as those comments that were made, don't take them to heart, your yorkie loves you and vice versa! Gilbert--

I agree... Layla is 5.5 lbs and people still turn their nose up at her because they have "seen smaller ones" like i care!! If people are confident enough to own a teeny one, great, but that is just too small for me. Layla is perfect. Then other people will tell me how tiny she is and wonder if she is full grown yet. There is something about THIS breed that makes people think they are free to give their opinion on size. I think it just goes with the territory....

Just like when I was in TX and she had a lady come in to purchase a yorkie puppy. She showed her the girls she had available and told her they would most likely only be about 3 pounds (she was letting the woman know this because the woman had another dog and a small child and the yorkie could easily be hurt by either one) and the woman looked at her and said, "Oh. I really wanted a teeny tiny one." 3 pounds IS teeny tiny!!!!
my kikko is 3 lbs and i freak out all the time! i think the perfect size yorkie for me would be 4-5 lbs ... i mean i agree the little ones are so cute but then the health problems/risk they have aren't so cute (i know i went through it).

it annoys me about pple how b/c of what's been made to be thought 'popular' will dismiss anything that's different. People have told me they like my dog more than my parents' yorkie b/c kikko looks smaller b/c his build short and stocky/compact and silver/tan .. my parents yorkie (who i think is SO handsome) he has long legs and really lean. his coloring is so pretty, he's black/gold, but is gold is so pretty its such a light warm gold color. BOTH weigh 3 lbs but b/c kikko LOOKS smaller b/c of his build they will automatically go to him first (which really annoys me b/c these pple DO NOT know how to handle dogs and will let their kids man-handle my puppy if i weren't around .. grrr..sorry that's another topic)

my male was 3lbs at about 12 weeks he has grown into 8.6 lbs which is still a small dog by any means but most think yorkies should be small like a stuffed toy it doesnt always happen that way though they are are beautiful to me!

Love Standard

Okay while Annie is a stunning lil girl.....you new lil girl is stunning as well. To have your darling MIL compare is simply rude. Id reply with this....

SHe is just a baby yet you never know how big she will be. As 5-7 pounds is standard for a yorkie the smaller they are the more apt to health problems they become. Id MUCH rather have a lil larger than normal yorkie thats healthy than one bred to be tiny and unhealthy. (not to say all tiny yorkies are unhealthy Im speaking of those who buy so called teacups just for size never considering health)

After all isnt "standard" for female humans 5-5 and 125 pounds??? Oh but we would never talk about that.....let's pick on lil yorkies!!!! lol

Your baby is gorgeous whether she be 10 pounds or 5 you love her all the same and she makes you happy and you make her happy. Thats what matters!

Your baby is beautiful and don't let any bad comment bother you. I get comments about my Pebbles all the time, some people tell me she has to be a Silky because of her size, she used to be 14 pounds and is down to 12 and I still get the same remarks, but boy I would not trade her for the world. Then I have one that is 2 pounds at almost 7 months and of course people go to her all the time, while Pebbles is saying, "hey what about me". I sure would not trade any of the two for the world, just shrug it off.

Speaking of never knowing what size they will be, while in Texas a woman emailed interested in one of the yorkies but wanted a size guarantee that it absolutely would not go over TWO POUNDS! She was told "good luck with that". lol

Oh and the woman who wanted the teeny tiny but had the other dog and small child was NOT sold a little girl and told that these yorkies just didn't seem to be the right fit for her family and to look elsewhere.

I was careful not to let her see that I was angry. I smiled and explained to her about breed size standard. I'm fairly certain it fell on deaf ears.

Annie-Belle was my first yorkie. She passed away in March. The attached pic is her.
Was you MIL close with Annie-Belle? Maybe she thinks she is being loyal to her memory for not liking little Susanah. Like the first grandchild My mom babysits for Bella everyday I work and has since she was little. When I got Izzie she felt a real loyalty to Bella and is now just warming up to Izzie. She never said anything bad, and was a loving g'ma, but it takes time. It's no excuse for rudness...just a thought.
Sorry about little Annie-Belle

It shocks me when I read a post about someone dissing a pet or making rude comments. I would NEVER wrinkle my nose or say anything mean about someone's beloved pet. I guess some people just don't get it!
