Animal Smiley 049 Oh God, Buddy bit the new groomer

Auntie Jane was so excited to see Buddy last Sat and I was excited to
see him groomed again by her. He wasn't thrilled to be there. She allowed
me to put him into the crate until she was done with the doggy on the table.
I left and went back 2hrs later and she told me he bit her! Oh heavens, I couldn't believe it. She said he was fine until she went to his tail. No warning
no growl just bit her on the top of the hand!
Auntie Jane is a sweet lady and she felt bad but next time he has to be
muzzled. Anyone else go through this problem? I am alittle upset that he would do such a thing.
Last month he went after the vet when he tried to open his mouth.
He's 3 1/2 now what is happening? He seems to only want me.
I feel I can't trust him anymore when he is out of his territory. Help.

Awwwww...I think its a reaction to those he isn't sure of ..did he break the skin ? He may have been just trying to say - "Don't TOUCH the booty" and lots of dogs aren't crazy about anyone back there - ....Does he ever do this to you or is it just something that happens with groomers and vets ? It's possible a groomer was rough with him in the past and he remembers it.

A long time ago a groomer was rough with Chanel ...she whimpered everytime I touched her side and man was I upset - that's the reason I decided to do my own grooming - it took her a long time to be excited about rides in the car (everytime I took her someplace she'd whimper and it broke my heart) so to help her get over it - I took her on lots of little short rides so she could get that memory out of her head.

Maybe this was the case ... maybe he doesn't like her booty touched. Whatever it is, it was an accident and I'm sure little Buddy is sorry for it. He's such a cutie.

It wasn't a nip V it was a bite and he did break the skin.
I felt horrible and the groomer seemed fine with it however she can't of course take that chance again. Yes, I lightly pinch his booty and he just
jumps and runs from me. Sometimes he backs up to me asking me to grab
his butt. He thinks it's a game. Guess he dosen't want to share it with others. There was never a problem before. Now I won't grab his butt anymore in hopes he's forget's he did this. Oh well I guess there our babies but they are still dogs.

Mine has never bit an adult at any time. She is always good to adults. But we cannot let any child near her. Any child under about the age of 10 will be bit. She has never broken skin because we have been careful to be very close by when a child is near. However, she will snap at them if they try to pet her. Every time! None of the children have done anything to her, and no child has ever hurt her. Usually I am holding her at the time, and the child has been very polite. This seems to be that unpredictable terrier coming out.

I am so sorry that happened. How sad. I wish I could offer some advice, but I know nothing about grooming. You do have my hugs!!

Sorry Buddy bit the groomer. I'm glad she was so nice about it. Perhaps something else frightened him and he reacted out of fear. My Snoot is so gentle but the one time I tired taking him to the groomer he freaked out and tried to bite her. I now groom him myself. He gets too upset with others touching him like that. I hope Buddy was just having a bad day.

I am so sorry for you to have to go through this. I also don't trust my male when children are around, well children that he does not know becasue he is a little skittish too. My females are not like that though. I think they get set in their ways just like we do and only want certain things and bodys.

Don't panic! He's not turning into a vicious dog - he just doesn't like his booty touched! I d bite if my hairdresser touched my booty!

Maybe you just have to always stay in the room when he's being handled like that.

Judy I did think of that for next time. Not sure how the groomer will react
to it. I hope he dosen't get crazy being muzzled though. I guess I will have
to wait and see.

Bailey always lets me know not to touch the booty too. She is not a biter but i bet if I were a stranger she would nip a little harder than she does with me now.

Is Buddy ever nippy with you???

Instead of muzzling, would the groomer let you stay and keep him under control?

Kirby snapped at the vet once, and from there on out he had to be muzzled. He got more and more vicious and nasty every time we went. I knew I could control him though.

Finally, I asked them if we could pleeeeeeeese try it my way. The agreed, reluctantly.

I bent down to pick him up and he snapped and growled at me, hair up and everything. I knew he wasn't about to bite me (and quite frankly, didn't care if he did, I didn't like the way he was reacting to being muzzled and wanted to make things better). Anyway, I just held my ground, picked him up and put him on the table. Then I held onto him while she did her thing.

It seemed to work, he didn't snap anymore, and he was much calmer when we left that in the past.

I really think the muzzle just increased his aggression.

Just a thought, Buddy's such a young guy, I'd hate to see this one time thing become the catalyst for muzzle induced aggression.

Yes, I'm afraid of that. I can't believe he did this. He's not a snapper
but would be I think if I didn't stay on top of him. He loves kids and has
no fear of them. He's been groomed since being a pup and this was the
second time at this groomer. I can't allow this to happen, I will ask next
time if I can stay. If not then I have to made a decision. I'm not sure I
want him muzzled if it will make matters worse. Thanks for the info.

Good luck! I really think if you handle it the next time and show him what you expect the behavior will not repeat itself. Buddy has no reason to bite if biting doesn't work.

Poor guy, something must've made him unhappy. Poor you. I'm sure you are upset by all this.
