| New here :) I have a special needs Yorkie. Hi all... I am new to this board. Last week I became the proud momma of a special needs yorkie, Jack. He is 2 yrs old and only weighs 4.5 lbs. He is so sweet but has many problems. To begin with he was born with only 1 eye, he has a crooked walk and often bumps into things. When I got Jack he was covered with hundreds of fleas & was horribly matted. I had to just shave him completely to get rid of the fleas & mats. Also so that I could inspect the condition of his skin which was terrible. He has some behavior problems as well. I have 2 other dogs... Precious a 2 yr old female pug & Toot Toot a 3month old female pug/dauchsund mix. Jack attacks Toot Toot every chance he gets. I realize its a dominence issue & I am taking him to my vet tomorrow to get him neutered. I hope this corrects a few of his behavioral issues. He "humps" Precious every chance he gets. She is having NONE OF THAT business, I got her spayed before her first heat cycle so she has no idea what the heck he's trying to do but she doesn't like it! Bless his sweet little heart he has a mouth full of rotten teeth which need to be pulled. I am going to talk to the vet about going ahead with the teeth extraction and cleaning while he is sedated but I dont know if that would just be to much trauma on his tiny body. Trouble is, I dont know how he will do with the anestesia since he has obvious neurological problems. Anyway, I'd love to have some feedback from you all Especially anyone with special needs pets. I am brand new to this kind of pet care so I could use lots of tips. |

| Welcome to YT and congratulations on your new baby! I have a 4-week-old girl named Lily who is special needs. I don't have her home with me yet, of course, but I am looking forward to her coming home! Lily has Hydrocephalus which is excessive accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid within the brain. This is all new to me too, so maybe we can learn some things together! I have a male yorkie who is almost a year, his name is Jake. Again, welcome!! I look forward to getting to know you and seeing pics of your babies! |

| Bless you for given Jack a home. I just rescued a 4yr maltese with problems like Jack but her eyes are ok. I took her to the vet and she will be getting her teeth done and pulled: spayed and toenails fixed on the 10th. Mean while I have been feeding her sm. amount of puppy food for weight gain and using an oatmeal shampoo to help her skin and hair grow back. Also a vitamin once a day. I am walking her to help with regaining her muscle mass. Everything is working out well and she is looking great and healthy for her surgery I hope this helps.

Hello there! I too applaud you both for taking on the challenge of caring for special needs babies. I lost my first yorkie Chuey to hydrocephalus. I loved him very much for the short time that I did have him. Thank you for sharing your story and you are in a great place for support!!
