Smile Age question.

Hello,

If I get 768 out of 800 in school exams I will be getting a yorkie .
The one I will be getting is 1 month old now, is it enough to bring it home?

Thanks,

YorkieSophie

P.S Say a prayer for me to get the marks I want!

Welcome to Yorkie Talk. Most people believe that a Yorkie should be 12 weeks before coming home. Ten weeks is probably okay though. I got Ellie at 8 weeks and that was really too young but everything worked out okay.

Welcome to YT!!

The pup should be AT LEST 12 weeks of age, before you bring him/her home. The pup needs time to learn all it can from his/her mommy.

*praying you get the mark you need, so you can get your baby!!*

6 Weeks is too young for puppies to be taken away from their mother even if they are eating on their own. They still have a lot to learn like bite inhibition, how to keep their home clean, manners, etc. Be patient and it will be a better experience for you and your puppy. The extra time will also allow you to do more research about everything. Look around Yorkie Talk for tips on training, grooming, diet, health, and more! Good luck on your exams!

Also read this. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=31003 Its the Puppy Development Stages. It kind of tells your what they get from there brothers and sis from staying with them longer and when about they start teething and chewing and etc.

Again do some searches on here. There are TONS of threads with LOADS of info on them.

Animal Smiley 049 Please Wait!

Well, you are putting this baby at risk taking it from his mom this young. WAY TOO YOUNG I know your excited, but how will you feel when this baby is up all night having seizures!?! That's what happened to me and many others in here...They get hypoglycemic from "kinda eating" Hypo is caused by changes in environment, not eating well, stress, and being away from thier mom too young. I know most dogs like labs and larger dogs are purchased at 6-8 weeks all the time, YORKIES ARE DIFFERENT! Please take your time on this one. I know its hard but go visit daily, and keep in close touch with the breeder but leave the puppy with his mommy. This could cost him his life, and you hundreds of dollars. I got Diggy at 8 weeks (also to young) and he had multiple seizures and over 300 in vet bills, and many sleepless nights, and could have lost him. This puppy is not going to make you very happy if your going through what hundreds of other on here experianced from a baby being taken away from its mom for selfish reasons (im not calling you selfish) But it sounds to me like your breeder does not know whatthey are doing if they are selling at 6 weeks. Read around in the breeder section and other posts on puppies.....I assure you everyone will say the same DO NOT GET A YORKIE BEFORE THEY ARE 10-12 weeks. Please trust us and love this baby enuff to wait. Your obviously going to be a good mommy, and are coming to this website out of love for your baby. Love him enough to wait! His life could depend on it! We have no reason to guide you wrong, and watch I bet my life every person responding to you will say the same thing WAIT PLEASE!!!!!!

I just read your post on Mum wanting him to get confident....His mother gives him that. Read on the development stages of a yorkie....He is in no way at 6 weeks ready! His birth Mum needs to show him how to take care of himself, and he needs the nutrients of her milk and love for his lil brain to finish developing. We are not telling you this to be mean, or argumentative, we want this to be a good experiance for you and your mum, not one filled with horror stories as my Diggy first few weeks were. I never enjoyed him as a baby 8-12 weeks Due to I was staring at him waiting for him to fall over into another seizure. He is now 16 weeks and a great joy to have. I almost lost him though. This dog will be your best friend and consume your whole heart, please love him the way he will love you and wait PLEASE!

To help you understand our perspective a little better, in most states in the USA, it is against the law for a puppy to be sold before 8 weeks. That is how important it is. Bigger dogs might be fine going home at 8 weeks but yorkies have their own special needs. We are talking about a very small breed and they are very fragile and susceptible to problems as young puppies. Many people here have had problems bringing their puppy home at 8 weeks. It's really better to just play it safe. Good luck on your grades and welcome to YT!

Love Too Young!!!!

I have bred my own Yorkies for the past 3 yrs. w/o making this reply too long!
I usually keep my puppies between 15- 20 wks. regardless of how much extra it costs for me to keep them! The longer the better.....their Mother and Litter mates teach them how to be a Dog, a Yorkie and a Balanced Puppy! Besides the obvious Health risks......most problems occur in the first 3 mos. even uo to a year old? Most breeders don't like keeping them so long b/c of the Vet. bills, think about it. If you have both Parents, that's 2 plus the 2-3 puppies?
That's at least 5 or depending on the Breeder - more?
I don't Breed them for the Money, I do it to improve the "Yorkshire Terrier"!
Every person that I have ever met that purchased a Puppy from someone else, that happened to be very young (6-12 weeks old) has complained about having both physical/emotional/behavior problems! It amazes me how Society and the General Public wants "Immediate Gratification"! Patience is a virtue and in this case for the Puppies sake? But that's a red flag to me if the Breeder is letting it go at such a young age? Makes me wonder what "Motivates" people? I have had a family wait a year and a half for a puppy and they purchased it 3 days after it was born.....but I still made them wait until he was 15 wks old. In this Breed's case the "Younger it is does not make it better". Maybe it's better for other larger breeds, but what ever is the Norm for others does not apply to "Yorkies", as you will learn Yorkies are in a class by themselves. Each dog is very unique, they all look and act differently but they are all the same! Good Luck w/your Studies, Aloha

My Breeder says she has lost more puppies between 8 to 10 weeks of age by various problems ... than at birth..... for your sake and the puppies.... wait... I promise you will be glad you did...
