| Almost made an emergency vet run! Bentley always sleeps in bed with me or brett... b/c that's where he likes to be. and i woke up around 3:30 because of loud thunder...Bentley had been woken up too and acted like he wanted on the floor so i put him down.. he ran and grabbed a pig ear he's been chewing on for a few days.. i figured okay that will calm him down a bit..so i put him back up on the bed ..around 5am i'm woke up by a choking dog!!! TALK ABOUT FREAKED OUT!! brett grabbed him and started trying to pat him...he could still breathe but you could tell there was something loged in his throat.. brett made him eat 2 treats b/c we were trying to get him to throw up... after about 3mins Bentley finally throws up...twice at that!! now he seems to be doing good...just a little scared! i'm so glad he's okay..i know it's my fault to for letting him still have it after it got small...

| Glad Bentley is OK!! That is scarry! Do keep an eye on him even though he appears to be alright. I have heard that they can get an intestinal blockage from rawhide [not sure if it's the same with pig ear]. We read so many scarry things about pig ears that we stopped giving them to Toto although she dearly loves them!

| Definitly that a scary thing. It's so lucky that you were there, I only let them chew on them if I'm right there and as soon as they look like they are working a piece off I grab it and cut it off with scissors. I'm glad that he's ok, but still keep an eye on him, was there a lot missing off the pig ear, if not he probably didn't eat too much...

| Gosh, that is scary! Our little chi got choked on a piece of dry dog food once, I had to dislodge it from her throat by sticking my fingers down and grabbing - she couldn't breathe at all! Needless to say, she will no longer eat that brand of dog food, but she was such a good little girl and stayed still until I got it out. I fed her some vanilla ice cream to soothe her little throat and she sure enjoyed that! Windy and Lida Rose |

| If you remember just this week, I had to rush Snoodles to the vet with a piece of Petrodix stuck in her throat. He said to rawhides or pigs ears or Petrodix"s. That scared me so bad, I hit her dog bones with a hammer and break up anything to small pieces. I don't ever want to go through that again! Pat |

| That's a lesson I learned years ago when Muffin was just a few years old. I always gave her rawhide. She loved to chew on them. Suddenly one evening she got choked -- she had swallowed a small piece. I grabbed her, turned her upside down and shook her and patted her back and luckily, out it came. There were never anymore rawhides for her. I wish someone had warned me about them then. She must have been around one or two years old. I don't remember now. We just let her go April 20th, so we would have missed having her all of these years and what a gift she was! |
