I have to admit I stopped reading Chris's posts after a while since it seamed as if he only wanted to have support for the rehoming idea. Also every suggestion of some of the really experienced YT members was bashed by him.

Was really p... me off was that he was always underlinig that IT is only a dog... well... dogs are pack animals and need a pack. So it would be only logically then to provide a dog a dog specific environment and to have IT crated that much is surely not a dog friendly solution...

Heidi, there are solutions for your situation and they were all suggested here.

In Germany we have a saying: As you call in the forrest it will call back...

no offense but I think your boyfriend only comes here for reactions. I read a few posts and can tell he doesn't have any real emotion for dogs - and people here happen to be dog lovers. After the post he just did that got deleted - I would have to say he was way out of line and knew it. So - when you said he was being bashed - maybe it was because he provoked some people ?

I'd try to get him to stop calling your yorkie an 'it' ? that's a good step in the right direction.:) Dogs aren't 'it's' especially when the dog is living with you on a day to day basis....oh - and I hope you do take peoples advise...it sounds like the crate time is pretty excessive. I wouldn't normally post like this but he did ask about it and it sounded like he was proud of the 20 hours a DAY your yorkie was in a cage.

Good luck...I'd like to see you post more - but personally - I wouldn't post to Nodak again after some things I read.

Oh, that is a perfect size! There is really no point in getting an x-pen if your crate is the same size as an x-pen would be. I think when people were bashing the crate, they were thinking it was a tiny crate! I trained BOTH of my yorkies in a large crate with bed and food in one end and pee pad in the other, the same way you're doing with Tanner. I would really look into the pee (wee wee) pads. Do you keep water and food in there and toys?

not acording to Chris you run to him when he snaps his fingers and you put Tanner in a cage. I am sorry hun I really just want to say I feel sorry for you and Tanner. but if you like it so be it.

I do keep food, water, toys and a super soft bed in there. He loves that bed. When I first gave it to him, he fluffed it for about 5 minutes until it was just right. It was absolutely the funniest thing I'd seen in a while.
I think we're going to change to the pee pads. They seem better and at least his pee will be absorbed!

That is not true.. I am not like that at all. Chris is getting better with Tanner. I think he is just upset that Tanner didn't attach to him like he did to me.

Chris calls people "it" and he is not proud of crating Tanner that long. I know that for sure. We both feel bad.

Our first yorkie attached to me and not to my husband. That's why we got Hootie, who is completely obsessed with my husband!

Well.. I can tell you one solution that I will follow through with and that's rehoming.. I'm sure that once you guys have been attached to your yorkie puppy, you would never think of rehoming them. But there are others like I've said before that we have been tossing around.

Well...I don't know what to say - I hope you do what's right by your puppy...I just had to say something because you felt he was bashed - I think people here had really great advise for him at first - - it just didn't get heard. So.... you are thinking of rehoming him ? I know there's lots of people that would love to give a yorkie a great home. They're special little dogs. Good luck to you and welcome to the site.

"And Chris does love the puppy and want the best for him (we are not rehoming him). Like I've mentioned before we've thrown around the play pen and x-pen idea and we're definitely loving that."

What about just putting a gate up and keeping him in the bathroom? I know in my little house space is limited. Mine are older now so they are not confined. But when they were little, I didn't have the money for a cage and I had a baby gate so I kept them in there. Linoleum floor-easy to clean up accidents and they had some room to move around for the times when I had to work longer hours.

If the crate training thing isn't working out, you could try keeping Tanner somewhere like a master bathroom. It should be a big enough area to keep a pee pad, water, bed, food, etc. And the floor is probably tile, so that would work out in case he has an accident. Good luck with the potty training thing!! I know it can be hard sometimes. But it sounds like you are being patient with him. Yorkies are such special little guys aren't they?
