| The puppy mill got to her I have a co-worker who just ordered a cocker spaniel ONLINE!!!!! She's supposed to be getting her next week from Missouri by plane. She showed me the website, and it's a total puppy mill! I tried to educate her on puppy mills and that she shouldn't support them because of what they do. It's not for the love of the animal, it's about money, at all costs even health. But she's already attached to her little girl (I can understand that. It's not the puppies fault they are there). I wish there was more I could do, and I know she's having doubts now because she sent her money and now the breeder hasn't called her back with flight information. What else can I do?? The website is www.classywags.com

| It sounds like you did everything that you could do! Some people just don't want to see beyond their cute little puppy and won't let themselves think about the poor breeding stock that is tortured in order to get the end result!

| Puppy Mills I got both my yorkies by looking on line but I made a visit to the breeders, found them by looking at recommended breeder sites, but it still made me nervous. How can a person tell just from the website that it is a puppy mill? |

It was pretty obvious to me not only because there's like a thousand breeds on there, but the way my co-worker was talking about their conversations. The lady didn't even tell my co-worker her weight, what she eats, what her tempermant is. I know that my co-worker should have known to ask, but a reputable breeder always discloses anyway. The website was a big giveaway.

When we first met - we got Tessa, my Cocker where he got his other 2.......His breeder had about 200 cockers - I was IN SHOCK when I walked in that place but didn't know 8 years ago that this was a small version mill. We left with Tessa....(she was adorable) but I was really upset about all the cages and barking and the smell - little did I know....now I think about that place and it makes me really angry. We took her to the vet - he said she had the most severe underbite he'd seen in a long time - I asked what could we do and he mentioned her being put down ? NO WAY ! I bought her to the car crying - no way were they touching her. Tessa has to be hand fed everyday because of her severe underbite - I mean EVERY DAY. When she was a baby she couldn't grasp the puppy food....She probably can now but she's not used to eating by herself so I hand feed her still. An underbite is MINOR compared to what some possibly people face when getting a puppy from a mill....I hope she has a healthy cocker - they're very sweet and are great dogs... | |

| That is so sad. Just thinking about it makes me sad. Those poor dogs. On the one hand you want to save them but on the other you don't want to pay any money to support something that is so wrong. But it makes me sad because the dogs suffer more than anything.

| It is very thoughtful of you to "educate your co-worker" about puppy mills...Hopefully she will be blessed with a happy healthy Cocker and remember what you told her if she ever decideds to get another pet in the future.

| If her check has already cleared not much. If not she can put a stop payement on it. If all else fails we can all send email telling her we will stop everyone we know from ever doing business with them. |

| I don't think it's as much a money issue as it is an attachment issue. She said she was real concerned now about whether her cocker will be ok. But that she doesn't have the heart to cancel now because she's already in love with her. But she promised that her next dog will be from a reputable place. I guess that's sort of reassuring.

| The fact that they are licensed by the Department of Agriculture is pretty much a dead giveaway that they are a puppymill. Our government subsidizes them! A way to protect herself or anyone for that matter in the future would be to use a "puppy escrow" service. You can google it on the internet and find one. This way you can't get scammed! |
