| YT 500 Club Member | Everyone talks about the "empty nest", but just as my older daughter was ready to go off to college, I remarried. We have four children between us, but they are all grown and live on their own. We married in our 40's and are now in our 50's so never had a child together. Our little Yorkie is our child together! She is so loved and spoiled by both of us, and our "people" children think we are nuts. However, they are all getting pets too. No Yorkie grandchildren yet, just one little people granddaughter, cats, two bigger dogs, and a Shih Tzu puppy. |

| Nope no skin kids! We were trying to have a baby when Adam thought he was going to Iraq, but I had a miscarriage. Shortly after we decided that we didn't need a skin baby... yet. We got our Chippy instead and couldn't have made a better choice!

| I never felt the urge to have children, and I was always career-oriented, so I never had any. No regrets. I was wrong about one thing though. I thought I was not maternal enough to be a parent. Edie has taught me that I could have been a great mother. She brought out the maternal nature in me, and I am grateful to her for that. |

| I have no children of my own, yet. I had a miscarriage with my (now)ex husband and I guess ever since then I've had what my mother calls "caregiver's syndrome" I work in a nursury school with infants which just seems to fuel this syndrome I have, and my sister's recent baby has made it a little harder that I wasn't able to have my own. My boyfriend suggested a puppy, and after looking around I decided that Paddington was the perfect remedy for me. We are planning on getting married and having human children, but for now Paddington is my baby boy in every way. My mom even babysits him with my nephew while I go to work during the week, and she calls him her second grandson. When she calls him she says "Come to grandma!" It's cute, but I think he loves her more than me now -O |

| Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | I'm stumbling onto this thread late, but it describes me to a T. And I didn't even realize it until I read through some of the other answers here. My wife and I tried to have kids even before we got married 10 years ago. We got married when I was 41 and she was 39, and when fertility drugs failed I figured we just missed our time. I was sad. Kids have always been a huge part of my life. Somewhere in there, we got a Yorkie. And then another. I instantly became a Yorkie nerd and spend all my free time with them. I think less about kids now and more about dogs, which is probably a good thing. I think I would have been a sad old man if I hadn't discovered Yorkies. It's nice to see I'm not the only one out there like that!

| There really are a lot of us out there. When I started taking Ginger to training awhile back, the trainer had a "dog club" set up where dogs could come and play. Anyway, eventually, the trainer closed this down, and a bunch of us with small dogs kept it going (mostly in my back yard )Anyway, it's been great for the dogs, but the other thing I like about it is that 95% of those who come are just like us. For one reason or another they don't have kids. There really ARE a lot of us out there!

I came up with what I thought was a good response a few years back ... "It's really hard to contemplate having kids when you can't find someone you really want to have dinner with." | |

| my daughter lives full time with her father. I don't get to see her as much as I'd like to. So my dogs are my babies. My husband and I aren't going to have any children of our own. Bridget is more a daddy's girl and Bella's becoming a mama's girl.
