I'm just curious to know what is the right way to measure your dog for length and height? I probably sound like an idiot but just curious to know if I'm right

I think I know the way I do the length is right but for their height I think I'm wrong? Is it shoulder to floor or top of head to floor?? I must sound like an idiot but I'm dying to know

No you don't sound like an idiot!

I believe the height is measured from the shoulder to the floor and the length is from the neck to the bottom, before the tail. I have seen it described this way on doggy clothing sites. I imagine that not everyone measures the same, but I think this way is pretty common.
