| Smelly Ears? Hi, it's been about 3-4 months since I posted anything on here. Buttercup has a smell or should I say odor in the area around his ears or it could possibly be his eyes or face. I'm not sure but the odor gets worse by the day. I tried cleaning it and it still doesn't work. Lots of times I just think it's because he plays outside and gets the sweaty smell and then bathe him and the smell doesn't go away. What could this possibly be or what can I do? I know this might sound stupid but an "unknowledgeable" sister-in-law told me that all yorkies "STINK" and that's the "reason" why she chose a shih-tzu over a yorkie. |

| Um, sometimes people miss that spot because they are so careful not to get too close to the eyes and ears, but if you are washing that particular part then perhaps it not because he's dirty. Have you called the vet? When I bathe Holly, she'll smell like shampoo for like three days. Then she'll start smelling like food and like doggies usually do. Is it a foul odor? Could it be the smell of the food that sticks to the part around her mouth? Keep us posted. I hope you find the cause of it soon.

| Sounds like an ear infection. Bella had the same problem and the vet gave us some drops and it cleared up. Just getting water from the bath in them can cause the infection. It smells kind of sour Hope this helps..

| Several things could be going on here. Buttercup could: 1) have an ear infection 2) if his eyes tear sometimes the damp areas around the eyes smell "spoiled" 3) he could have an throat/gum infection If you cannot locate the source and resolve it, he needs to to got the vet. |

| I also was thinking an ear infection could be the culprit...

| I would say ear infection or the eyes. Pipers eyes stink after a few days so now she gets her face washed in between baths.

| Ahem. All yorkies do not stink. I agree with above posters on the possibility of ear infection, eye goo, or teeth/gums being the problem. If you washed the area really well and the smell persists, see a vet. Ear infections can get severe quickly and the worse they are the longer you'll have to treat. Good luck!!!

My furkids Donating Member | Do you wash her ears when giving her a bath? I use a cotton ball and Oti-Clean and wipe out the inside of their ears. And I have to agree with Gingergirlsmom....Yorkies only smell if then need a bath! My next door neighbor (friend) has a shih-tzu...and let me tell ya...she is stinky!

| I'm sure everyone's yorkies on here smell like roses! I know my Talia smells great! I think ear infection or mouth probs as well. I'd take her to the vet!

BANNED! | All yorkies do not stink. Mine actually never smell bad unless they are due for their bath. I would take her to the vet and have her ears checked. Might I suggest also using baby wipes on her face after she has eaten or in between baths to help keep her eyes and face cleaner. |

| I normally wipe his ears with baby wipes every 3-4 days and it usually never works. I also clean the area around his eyes as well and still the same thing. I guess I need to take the poor thing to the vet on Monday. Thanks for all the help. |

| When you clean out her ears do you get brown gook? If so she might have ear mites.
