| How Do you Know? I was just curious, how far along in your yorkies pregnancy do they have to be before you can tell if they really are pregnant? |

| Usually by 6 to 7 weeks you can determine if they are pregnant (visually). Some carrying only one pup may be real hard to determine(visually). There is always ultrasound early in the pregnancy as a way of determining if in fact there is a pregnancy.... or at around 8 weeks an xray can be done.

| Generally, a vet can tell about half-wayish through the pregnancy if a female is expecting. An x-ray or ultra sound done around day 50 should be able to give you a good esitmate (if not exact count) of how many pups the female is carrying. More importantly, you should be able to tell if the pups are too big for the female to deliver naturally. IMO, a c-section you can plan ahead of time is better than an emergency one, during a troubled whelp, in the middle of the night. Last edited by BamaFan121s; 04-14-2007 at 01:07 PM. |
