| I'm a failure I have searched, read, researched, and read some more. Still...when I try to tape Spicey's ears, they just stick straight out- not up. I tried the shaving and attaching the paper via eyelash glue like I read on here but it isn't making them go up either. I am a failure at this. And by the way, the glue and paper deal is MESSY. Don't attempt that unless you REALLY know what you are doing. Poor Spicey. His ears will just have to flop...I know he probably doesn't care...I just wanted him to be like all the other Yorkies. They look so cute with their hair waterfalling off those up ears. I had no idea it would be so difficult.

| Don't be hard on yourself. How old is your Spicey? One of my pup's ears was up when we got him, and the other didn't come up until around 15 weeks old. Some just take a while to come up. Keep the ears trimmed really short or shaved until they do come up.

| You're not a failure...what works for one may not work for another. When we got our first Yorkie his ears flopped and my vet said to massage them to get the circulation going in that area. You just gently massage the ears from the base to the tip while your baby is laying on your lap...it gets the blood going and it relaxes them. Good luck...I hope this works for you. Also, depending on the age of your pup, sometimes they will go up and down during teething so don't get discouraged. Last edited by my2boyz; 04-11-2007 at 01:30 PM. |

| Yep, how old is Spicy? Cooper's ears were floppy early on, but then after he lost all his baby teeth they stood straight up, they never go down now...maybe he just needs more time. I have attached some pics of Cooper's ears early on and how they are now for you to see how his were. Good luck, I hope they go up if that is what you are hoping for, but I think they are adorable with them down too!!

What I did do that I thought made a difference was I massaged his ears everyday for several minutes per ear. (Normally while we were watching TV in the evenings, but every time I pet him throughout the day I'd do little massages.) I also kept his the hair on the top 3/4 of his ears shaved. Hope this helps! | He is 19 weeks old. I wish I hadn't tried the eyelash glue. One ear still has the paper attached but the other doesn't. It's pitiful. But even with that on there, the ear is still floppy. He's about 7 lbs right now so maybe that has something to do with it? He's in wonderful health but the breeder told us that due to his size he would be considered "pet quality." He was the largest in the litter and will probably be a 10 pounder. The sire and dam were both under 7lbs but it appears Spicy won't follow suit. This is fine with us because we weren't planning to breed or show and with 3 kids- he's a good size for us. But the more I have read and learned about the "standard" the more I want to do everything I can so he will fit in as many of those standards as possible. Know what I mean? He is absolutely adorable. His coloring will be beautiful and we just love him. I only wish I could help get those big ol ears up.

| almost all of the "above standard" yorkies I have seen have floppy ears.. so this may have something to do with it

| I had to laugh because it didn't work for us either. They did stand up with the paper on, but not after I took it off. And now there is still a bit of the glue stuck. I do like the ears up with the waterfalling hair too. I love Jeanie the way she is now though. And if they don't go up, I will still love her...........she will be "different".... |

| We just used some masking tape for Yoda when his ears were floppy as a baby. It worked great, some may add a small piece of cardboard along with masking tape. Good luck! |

| Maybe there is a groomer in the area who could show you a trick or new technique? |

BANNED! | Your not a failure and you can actually get them to stand up still. You have to be dedicated to taping the ears and leaving them taped for 3 days. Then remove the tape and see if they stand, if they still stay down after a day with no tape then re-tape them again for 3 more days. 3 days taped, then 1 day without, then 3 days taped, then 1 day without again. You can do this as long as necessary, since the day with no tape allows his ears to get plenty of air and rest. Here's how I was told to tape my boys ears. Fold them in half long wise like a taco and put your finger in the ear when you wrap the tape around the bottom of the ear. here's a picture of my boy before , during and after. If you have questions feel free to ask... If they dont stay on top of his head, you can tape them together which will kinda look like a tennis net.
