| Allergies--Help Dixie is a victim of allergies and it is awful to watch her chew and scratch herself. Had her to the vet about it and she is on her 3rd. antihistamine and it's called Hydroxyz HCL 10mg 2 times a day, and she still scratches about 25% less is all. The next thing to do is have a blood test which will identify what she is allergic to and they would make up a serum and I would give her a shot once a week. This test cost 350.00 and in a few short years we would have to go through this again maybe eliminating some of what she is allergic too. This is all just chance, that some of the serum worked to help her from not scratching. She is only 5 months old and already having problems. At 8 weeks I noticed her scratching thinking she might have a flea. I give her a bath every week. Is there somebody out there that has a Yorkie with serious allergy's. Maybe there is a simpler way and not so expensive to treating allergies. It hurts me to see her scratch as much as she does. Ginny |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Cali scratches ALL the time. I just went through the allergy testing around 250.00 and it came back that she wasn't allergic to anything they tested her for!!! They tested for food and environmental. Meds have not helped her at all. I am now taking my Pom to a dermatologust for something else and I asked her about Cali and she said that most dermatologists fell allergies are mostly caused by foods and to male an appointment. I will but right now I am dealing with Maya's issues. Once I get her in I will post the results. I know how you feel it drives me crazy and her as well

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | alot of time if they have allergies all year round they might be allergic to some type of food product. what are you feeding? you can try the allergy formulas you purchase in the petstores Or you can ask the vet to put her on Z/D ultra which is an allergy food made by hills. YOu also need to cut out all treats that you give her. Use her dog food as a treat so that she's not getting anything but the allergy dog food. you may have already spoken to your vet about this but its a good non-invasive route to try before expensive allergy testing

| Still on Allergies My vet told me food is very low on the list for allergies. I don't give her many treats, and feed her dry "Chicken soup" and one meal with 2 tbs of the can food on the dry. http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Produc...m?pcatid=15661 Dr. Foster and Smith site offers Allergy tabs and Omega-3 gel caps and I may try that. I am going tomorrow to a vitamin shop where they sell Holistic meds. for pets and will try something she offered on the phone and said it will help. I am not sure I believe in all that, but am willing to give it a try. Thanks for any advice anyone can give me. Ginny |

| Mitzi 10y.o.) had the same problems and we switched her to raw food. Just raw beef, turkey, lamb and chicken with some bones (RAW) to chew on. Also some homemade jerky (without salt) as treats. She doesn't scratch and chew herself anymore and she is all together in better shape. It helped Mitzi with her scratching when she was wearing a cotton t-shirt and I washed her paws frequently. Now we don't have those problems anymore thanks to the raw diet. |

oh and the omega fatty acid tabs are excellent for the coat. maybe she's itchy becuase she has dry/flakey skin. if that's the case then the omega tabs would work. i'm trying to think of all the allergy dogs i've seen come into the hospital to think of things for you to try. ummm, has your vet done a skin scrape and look at it under the microscope to make sure there are no mites involved?
