| is archie a...gasp!...silky?! three different yorkie owners have asked me if archie is a silky. i keep telling them that archie's a yorkie but he's big. i get the feeling they don't believe me, though. he's got a great coat, but that's because i use pantene conditioner. honestly, i question whether their dogs are yorkies because two of them had brown and grey coats at a really young age (8 months), and one had a shih-tzu-looking face. archie's kept his blue and tan coat at 1 year, and to me, he doesn't look long like silkys look and doesn't have the almond shaped silky eyes. he's just like a humongous yorkie. here's a recent picture...what do you think? http://yorkietalk.com/forums/attachm...tid=6151&stc=1 |

| i sometimes use to question if Ginger was purebred Yorkie, people thought she was a silky because she was long and had silver hair. but some people here reassured me she was purebred. i don't know much about silky's. so i'd like to stick around this thread to know as well! your little man looks yorkie to me! but what do i know! |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | He sure looks like a yorkie to me - Silkys have a little different look in the face - I was just watching Crufts and they had a silky on today - their eyes are a little different and the shape of their faces - among other things - I think you have ALL yorkie and a cute one at that ! Course I may not know at all what I'm talking about - I'm going by what I see only cause I look at yorkies all the time lately ....And if he WAS a silky - they're beautiful little dogs too - but your baby looks like a bigger size yorkie and I wouldn't worry about it |

| Lickthestar, I saw your post and googled Silkies. Looking at them and reading the breed standard, I started getting confused!!! Based on the that and the pictures, a third of the dogs on this forum could be accused of being Silkies! Bo included! I've got a flop earred, 7 month old, 7 1/2 pound Yorkie. All anyone can go on is what the breeder said they were selling. I don't even know if AKC could police breeders that well. (I may get slammed for that, but everyone just chalk it up to my ignorance!) All I know is that Bo is my baby and he brings my family so much joy! He could be a pure-bred flop earred, 7 month old, 7 1/2 pound rhinocerous and I wouldn't care!! BTW, Archie is adorable!!

| Doncha just love those spurts (that is my word for the know-it-all-nuthin experts) that can just look at a dog and know exactly what it is? Gimme a break!! Next time somebody asks if your dog is a Silky look aghast and say "OMG, do you suppose I have one of those?!!" I better go sue somebody for selling this to me as a purebred Yorkie." I love to jerk people's chain. Your dogs look like perfectly healthy, loving Yorkies. Hey, maybe they grew up too close to nuculer plants. Me bad!!! |

| No, I don't think he looks like a Silky. Even though Archie may be a little larger than the standard calls for in a Yorkie. My Dad has a Silky and he has a totally different look and his coat is completely different. Maybe those who asked, don't really know what a Silky looks like ... Theresa & The Boys |

| I Google'd it and read that generally.. Silky's have larger snouts, longer legs, longer bodies and bigger eyes. In size, they are normally bigger than Yorkies and should weigh between 8 - 11lbs. Whatever Archie is.. he sure is handsome! |

| I've never seen a silky except on television at the Dog Shows. On tv at the big shows its so easy to tell the difference if for no other the reason...the grooming!

| I also just did a google on Silkies and found other pictures that look a lot like Yorkies! But I saved a few pictures of these Silky Terriers so you can see the difference. My personal preference are the Yorkies. I think they are just adorable and have the cuter faces than the Silkies. All the pictures I have here are silkies. http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y20.../silkybook.bmp http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y200/gennel/silky5.bmp http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y200/gennel/silky1.bmp http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y200/gennel/silky3.bmp |

| i can't tell at all! these pics look a lot like yorkies, too...but it looks almost like silkies are mini-pinchers with a wig...they have longer noses and really perky ears. |
