Where did this "furbaby" description of a Yorkie come from ?

It's a way to call them babies without actually calling them babies...

kind of like Skinkids vs Furkids - then people know which we're talking about..

exactly!! and it's not used for our yorkies only. i don't use it personally - i say romeo is my baby PERIOD!

Furbaby. First time I ever heard that was a while before I got Ginger when I was still looking for a shihtzu through a rescue (before I decided on a yorkie). I never considered it a yorkie-specific term.

.....Well Jacky....it's because it makes me CRINGE....and we never use it over here....a lot on this forum go on about furbabies all the time, and I just want to shout...."THEY AIN'T FURBABIES....THEY'RE YORKIES !!!" .....lol !

I don't understand what the big hoopla is Why would anyone care what others call their furbabies??? Feel free to use any term you'd like..lol I personally love furbabies and will probably always use that term.

just because its different & you dont use it over there, it does NOT mean its bad. just like they arent technically "yorkies", they are yorkshire terriers. You see?.. its just a nickname, just like the term yorkie

Not really. It is a term used all over in any pet forum you visit on the internet. And a lot of times IRL.

As everyone said. It is used for any type of cat or dog. Not just yorkies. And people use if b/c they are like babies, but with fur.

Wow! You obviously feel strongly about this. It's interesting that you have such disdain for a term that people use so lovingly and light-heartedly.

In today's society, many people do not have human children and enjoy "parenting" these beautiful little dogs. I know my Yorkies make my life complete. In fact, I know many people who specifically choose Yorkies for their personalities and "baby-ing" ability (so to speak ).

Too bad you can't see it in terms of the affection and zeal people have for their "babies" when they use it!

Man - I thought she was kidding when she posted making fun of people who used the word Furbaby...but just saw the big red mad face she put on this thread and guess she wasn't ! lol - ooops

I don't call my girls furbabies but I still think it's cute...why would someone get mad over a word said with love ???
