![]() Unfortunately, it seems that anywhere in Southern Calif, the price for a purebred Yorkie is over the top. However, I have been out to Cigale's place (Elite Petite), and her Yorkies are bred in a very "homey" environment. She is extremely careful with the tinies, often not letting them go until they are four months or more. The two I purchased from her, 18 months apart, were average size (not teacups), and I got a very good impression of her set up. Of course, that was some years ago, but I did speak with her late 2006 when my little Tigger was dying. She seemed to be the same caring individual/breeder and gave me good advice, even though I was not adopting a pup from her at that time.

![]() I was thinking about this and looking at that site again and the pups. I still think they are cute, but several people brought up good points. If he won't give exact info on the parents (pedigree/photos/etc) forget it. Also, yes, ask what the contract info is. I sometimes question when the cost of a a pet gets to be this high then its so much more of a money maker then anything. I'm just finding it is so hard to purch anything over the internet anymore and trust people. I absolutely LOVE both of my dogs but my Yorkie (mix?) was sold to me as purebred, he might be, but he is large 11lb (ok that happens), his ears are floppy(that happens), his hair is a little more curly then it should be (guess that could happen). He is however my heart and an excellent dog, we have a very close/special bond. My Biewer I just recently purchased was supposed to be to standard (7lb), I think he is going to top out at around 8.5, he isn't as cobby and compact as I was lead to believe. His ears a big bigger and not as tappered as I would have liked. I will take some responsibility on this, yes, I know my dogs and I did my research and still. He was also very shy and was a "dropper" meaning when I would go to pet him he would drop to the floor. I asked the breeder why he seemed soo shy, she didn't said..He shouldn't, he was raised around animals/people in my living room (could be true, each dog is different). The fact of the matter is when buying over the internet you are relying on that person, you aren't visiting the facility. What Breeder is going to say...yes, I breed 10 breeds of dogs, they are kept in wire cages etc. No, it sounds much better to say "raised in my livingroom with my family etc). So, just beware, many on this board I'm sure have their own experiences good/bad to share. If I am in the market for a Yorkie next time I will come to this board and look for people who have physically seen the facilities, or have gotten a dog from a certain breeder and been very happy. Mind you, neither of my dogs were "cheap", so more expensive does not necessarily equate to better. Kathy

![]() Biewerlover I agree with much of what you say. I will only adopt a Yorkie from a place I can physically visit myself. I have to see breeding conditions, Sire, Dam, more relatives..... even better. The (very small) local breeder I got my little Mango from is private, will not have a website, sells by word of mouth and does not advertise in the paper. His animals are beautiful, well socialized and live in spotless domestic conditions. He does not ship, and will not sell to anyone he does not meet first. He has been breeding Yorkies this way for 20 years. His "brood" are all AKC registered. He does not inbreed and on occasion, will use a Sire from another breeder.

![]() LaurenR, Yes, thats a good way to do it. In retrospect I wish I had done things a bit differently this last time with the Biewer. Again, I would not change having him, but for what it cost me he should definitely fit the standard and be the pup that was explained to me. The breeder was very nice, I "saw" the parents (well photos). I flew out to Philly to meet the breeder and pickup my pup, and I probably should have mentioned something then because although Bentley was adorable, he appeared bigger then I would have expected and seemed timid then, but...you know..hind sight. Other then that he is doing great, we are working on his training and thats going well. I just know next time I will not purch without alot of references from others who have dealt with a particular breeder, or where I can go visit..period.

![]() LaurenR, Where in CA is your breeder located and how would one locate him? We're starting to think about finding another sister for my Molly and we're located in Orange County (Southern CA). Would love to have the info as a possibility. Suzi

![]() Hi, I live in Buffalo, NY and bought my Lulu from Bob Balas and I must say he is a wonderful breeder. He gives out information on the parents and he has a health guarantee in his contract. His puppies are very well socialized and friendly. They are also partially litterbox trained and it only took me a few weeks to get Lulu completely litterbox trained. Lulu's dad is one of Bob's champion show dogs (Donnie). If you are interested, Bob will talk with you at length over the phone about his dogs and answer any questions you may have. I would highly recommend him as a quality breeder. I can't say enough good things about him. Please feel free to PM me if you have any questions that I could help you with. Colleen

![]() the breeder I posted about is local to me so I would go to the place and check it out first. He does have a typical 1 year health guarantee and I saw the pictures and info on the parents I thought.....maybe I was wrong I'll check it out again. I paid 2200 for my little buddah and he is not the quality I was expecting. I will be much more careful the next time around. Anyone know what the health gaurantee covers? Would it cover if one of his balls didnt drop? or bad teeth? anything? I am finding a lot of problems with my pup and id like to know what I am entitled to. The paper work and explaination I was given is pretty vague.

When I first got him he had a bad respitory infection that we had to use 3 different antibiotics to cure. Then I noticed he has a second row of teeth coming in and a bad over bite. I showed my friend who is a vet in SD and he was like Ive never seen anything like that before. His new teeth are coming in perpendicular to the rest of them. Then I also found out that one of his balls hasnt dropped. And when i got my reg papers they were for the ACA and not the AKC. when i asked them about it they gave me a bunch of crap about the AKC allowing inbreeding and not being reputible. blah blah blah and i would have to get a DNA test to register him. it makes me mad because i was taken and i know it. I told them full on that i wanted AKC and i was planning on possibly breeding him once in the future in hopes of getting a little girl and possibly wanted to do some Agility. If I had paid 800-1100 i might feel different, but i paid $2200. That is a lot and I expect to get the best for that money. Just shows you dont always get what you pay for. I guess thats why seeing this guys site and after talking to him I just feel even worse. His pups are about the same as I paid for mine but MUCH better quality from what I can see. | |
