You must build up your animals health with a natural diet. Start right off with home-prepared food and emphasize nutritional yeast and garlic.

Add about 20 drops of oil of either eucalyptus or pennyroyal to a bottle of natural shampoo or liquid castile soap. As a final rinse, use a tablespoon of white vinegar to 16 oz. of water. Another repellent rinse is to use 1 teaspoon dried rosemary (or 1 tablespoon fresh) 1 pint boiling water. Combine and steep for 10 minutes, covered. strain and cool to body temperature. Pour it over your pet after the final rinse. Rub in and towel dry without further rinsing.
Please note that using a shampoo or conditioner that has a fruity or flowery fragrance to it only attracts bugs, and especially mosquitoes to your baby.

Mow and water your lawn regularly. Short grass allows sunlight to penetrate and warm the soil, which kills larvae. Watering drowns the developing fleas.
Don't kill your ants. They kill all the insects in your yard.
Once or twice a year, sprinkle natural, unrefined diatomaceous earth along walls, under furniture, and in cracks and crevices that you cannot access with a vacuum. It is harmless to pets.

I also wonder how much our human diets contribute to the amount of disease in us as well.

Anyone who can have them---Guinea Hens will pick your property clean of ticks. Also beetles and leafhoppers. They will keep your gardens pest free.

Bonus-- they also make excellant watchdogs sounding an alarm when anything is amiss. Even when predetory birds are circling.

We had such a warm December I found one on my little guy on Christmas day...I was shocked. I immediately put a flea and tick solution on him.

I pulled 2 off Lillie last night AND 2 Off Baby. We took them for a walk on a deck trail, I never thought they would get them there. So I'm not letting them outside till I go get the flea and tick meds from the vet

My little Diesel had one right between the eyes last week. It was still really tiny but was attached already. I sprayed them all down with frontline. I hope that works. We have lots of trees around us.

Ok, since i got piper i have found either ticks on her or where she has been laying(alot in my bed..eww) But I gave her a bath and everything was fine for a while. Im checking her every few days, giving her baths, and pulling them off her when i can find them. I found on the size of a raisin on the floor where she slept. She has a bump behind her ear where i pulled one of the ticks off. Should I take her to the vet? Im totally clueless here..first time yorkie mommy,lol..im used to my huge dogs. Also, is there any shampoos you guys can recommend that will help keep the ticks off her? She doesnt go outside hardly at all, so i dont know where they are coming from. PLEASE HELP!

I pulled one TINY tick off both my boys 2 days ago. It was already burrowed into their skin, but it was still tiny... I know nothing about ticks and lyme disease but yeah, frontline on the way! it is scarey!!

Get frontline or revolution. i put my boys on frontline bc revolution you need to go to the vet every month for a shot, but frontline you just put on them yourself once a month, works well for me, for them!

Make sure when you take the tick out, you get the head, I use tweezers and get as close to their skin as possible when I pull them out. I wash the area with alcohol a couple times a day for a few days. if it appears red or infected take your dog to the vet. I have not had problems with the bites but I dont' want to risk it. Make sure you check your dog everyday, run a brush through his hair daily to shake loose ticks from his hair that have not attached yet and to keep them from getting on your bed and ultimately on you!! YUCK!

Yeah- He does not have Lyme or the other tick disease-He was tested on Sat. & the vet thinks it was just a severe reaction. You can't be too careful & the vet said we did the right thing by bringing him right in-especially since it had a perfect red ring around the bite.

I HATE these little things They are so bad here in MD. My girls potty in a litter box but my pekingese goes out and I find them on him all the time. I got him the Lyme disease vac. and I would like to get the girls it also but I'm afraid because the vet says its really hard on them. My pekingese Snoot is about 15 lbs. and he was grumpy from it for about a week. The area was so sensitive. The worse I've ever seen from getting any type of vac. I'm just nervous he's going to bring a tick in and it will get on my girls. He's white so I see them on him easily but I'd never find them on my girls. My vet thinks the girls should have the shots. Has anyone had them before? I'm just so scared to get them

The first shot didn't affect him at all-the booster on Sat. made him sleepy all day & he didn't perk up till Sunday. But I would rather he not get Lyme!!! The vet said it would be sensitive where he got the shot.

I guess i should have read some comments before replying So glad your baby doesn't have lyme My girls were just tested about a month ago and they are good too I'm just so nervous about this shot. My one little girl doesn't do well with shots. She always gets sick I'm just so nervous but your so right. I'd rather see them sick for a few days then ever to get Lyme. Glad your baby is ok

After finding a tick bite last year, my vet has me keep Ledum (or Lycopodium...can't remember but you can do a search online) on hand to give to prevent lyme disease.
I found a tick the other day on sparks (walking around on his hair). We live in a very cold climate and I am very surprised. I am now goign to put a t-shirt on him whenever we go on trail walks and I sprinkle Neem powder especially on his head and feet. I then do a very good brushing when we get home.

OMG, I just found a red ring on Mayson's belly last night - but no tick. At first I was thinking it might be ringworm. But now, I'm not so sure? I'm hesitant to go running to the vet because I just spent tons of money on his broken toes and besides he scheduled for his neutering in two weeks. But sounds like the vet takes the whole tick bite thing seriously. Even without them knowing for sure your baby has lyme disease. I'm not sure what I should do?

I pulled 3 off Hannah today and 1 off Bentley. I have never before seen ticks on them. Just this month I swiched to Revolution so I am wondering if that has anything to do with it. Also Revolution does not protect against deer tick-that is the one that causes lyme disease.

Sparks had a red ring last year (no tick in site). The vet said it was some sort of black fly or spider bite.
I've been using garlic in his food and Neem powder brushed in. I can take him to trails where we used to get ticks. We do not get ticks anymore.
