URGENT!!!! the AKC is considering registering Designer dogs

AKC is not considering registering them per se...they are considering ILPing mixed breeds. In order to get an ILP your dog has to be neutered...and it's only for competition purposes....like agility and obedience...not show purposes...I don't think it's a big deal if they do it. All dogs should be able to compete in performance events if they want to.

I'm not saying I hate them, but they are high priced. The term "Mutt" as I use it isnt meant to be derogatory as much as its just referring to a mixed breed. I have owned and loved many mixes. I am aware that there is alot of pedigree dogs that originated from mixes, but I'm concerned on the standards becomming too low with AKC regulations. I have no problem with them competing its just registration concerns I would have.

So glad to see this discussion going more indepth. If people would read the survey they would see it is not about breeding and registrations. I personally feel there is no harm in allowing spay/neutered mixed breed dog the ability to compete in agility etc. I feel strongly the AKC should not be a register for mixed breed dogs as we have enough of those already.

Personally, I do not want AKC to have more power in legislation regarding dogs. To many self interest groups involved that are interested in their pocketbooks (Hunt Corp). I prefer to have an organization which is interested in all animals have the power.

Judy, I am sorry but I disagree with you about people breeding to breed unless it is to "better a breed". This country is destroying over 5 million animals a year (this is based on the last statistics from 1999) so you can image what the number is today. I am fully in favor of people adopting mixed breed dogs from rescues, animal shelters and the Humane Society. I have one myself, along with 8 Yorkie rescues and 1 Biewer.

And yes, the AKC has embraced Hunt with open arms. He has even been sponsored into a German Sheppard Club by a well known name within AKC.....Yes, Hunt is a great wholesaler of dogs and brings them into the USA by the hundreds from other countries....
