URGENT!!!! the AKC is considering registering Designer dogs The AKC is doing a survey to get opinions on registering mixed breeds. Please go and take the survey and let them know how you feel. I believe the deadline for doing this is Saturday March 31 http://www.akc.org/mixedbreed_survey/ |
Hey Jeanie! I just completed the survey. Thank you for posting this!! Tammy |
thanks for the headss up. my feeling about designer dogs is that they are high priced mutts. Sorry!!!!!!!! |
Just took the survey. I really hate that they are even questioning mixed-breeds..........my personal opinion is that of Sugar's mom (high priced mutts). If one really wants one then there are plenty to be rescued. |
  WHAT???????:2omg: :2omg: IT CAN'T BE SO:eyeballpc |
This is just in the preliminary stages. What this survey is about is consideration in registering mixed breeds to compete in areas of obedience and agility....They will be able to compete against each other, however, unable to compete against pure breeds. Keep in mind today altered purebreds and non AKC registered dogs can compete with special documentation required to be filed. |
Did you notice that on the survery, they specifically stated spayed/neutered mixed breeds. so they are not advocating the breeding of these dogs, just allowing them to participate in events. |
The survey has been around for awhile.....Now the ability for mixed breeds to compete in this area has been done in Great Britian for sometime with no adverse reaction. In the USA most pure breed dog fanciers are taking a stand against it.....I'm not for it either. Just concerned if it passes, how much further AKC will take it to increase those AKC registrations. |
After I got my Bijou (APR reg.) I have done enough homework to know it is a worthless piece of paper. Haven't even sent it in yet. They will reg. anything. AKC seems to be the only good reg. left. I sure hope they don't go the same route as all the other reg. out there. |

If you are in favor of it, then you should take the survey and let that be known. there is a question on there as to how you feel they should be classified. should they get the same titles or should their titles have an "M" after them to signify mixed breed. I personally can't see the harm in letting them compete in the companion dog events, and they do specify spayed/neutered mised breeds. It might acutually encourage people to adopt shelter dogs if they were allowed to participate in companion events. However, I understand some of the concerns, that others have, if they are allowed. |
LOL I don't think i'm in favor of it - I think the AKC should keep it's standards but then again... times change....and we sometimes have to go with the flow....but I do like what you said on the shelter dogs... I can't take the survey - my Adobe Reader is messed up and I can't see or open ANY PDF Files - it really sucks cause I want to print postage off my computer and can't ...or read stuff like the survey :( Until I figure out how to restore the application without reformatting my whole computer I'm doomed to NO PDF action |
I have no idea what my opinion is on this. all dogs were mutts at sometime considering they had to come from somewhere right. yorkies and other purebreed dogs didnt just magically happen. But I dont think they should be making mutts especially on purpose and then selling htem at outrageous prices as designer dogs. this is rediculous you know how many mutts ive had in my day any dang dog could be a designer mutt if you know the kind of dogs involved in the making of the puppy. I had a pit bull lab once we can call it a pit retriever and then make millions. lol |
I just took the survey. I think it will hep increase registration for AKC and maybe at the events they will do more Awareness type things. I don't see the harm expecially since it did say for spayed or nutered only. |
