| Why does my Yorkie pant all the time? I dont understand. I have noticed if the temperature rises at all, for instance it was about 70 something here...she starts panting like crazy even though she is inside and not exerting herself. I actually took her to the vet 2 weeks ago after we had a few mildly nice days because I was worried and he said she seemed fine , that some dogs just do that alot. It just seems abnormal though and I keep worrying that she is sick or that it might signify something else. Anyone else had experience with this? Thanks so much. by the was I do know why dogs pant normally, to cool themselves off because they dont have sweat glands, but I cant imagine she is that hot on a 70 degree day inside a cool house. | My yorkie has been panting a lot lately. I have only had him since November. He also sneezes and coughs when he gets excited too. Does yours do that? |

| the only time i notice maggie panting is when we are in the car. otherwise, i have never seen her pant. I am sure your baby is fine, dogs do pant for several different reasons. but I certainly understand being concerned. let us know if you find out anything different!!!!

| I have noticed that lately since the temps. have risen Uma has been panting a lot. I assumed she needed time to adjust to the temp. change. Juju is not bothered by the warmer temps., but then she is an older pup and enjoys the heat on them ole bones!

Donating YT 30K Club Member | My Pom who has a massive coat pants all the time even in the dead of winter. My vet said she was a highly excitable dog. The only time she is not panting is when she is sleeping and this has been going on for nearly 10 years!! My Yorkies only pant when they are really excited.

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | I would have her checked out by your vet, just in case. They should examine and listen for at least a minute or more to her heartbeat. Also listen to her lungs to make sure they are clear as well. If everything checks out, then you just have a dog that may "run" hotter than another.

| Teegy only pants when he's hot. Except once. We were in a house with people he didn't know and he wouldn't leave my side and was panting like crazy. Upon noticing this I excused myself, we left and he was instantly fine. He was just really uncomfortable and stressed |

| My Prince used to pant even if he just woke up. After an x-ray, he was diagnosed with a severe collapsing trachea. I pray that your baby does not have that. To have peace of mine, I would get an x-ray. I don't want to scare you. If I did, I am so sorry. You and your baby will be in my prayers.

| I was kind of wondering just what tests your vet did to decide that he she "seemed" fine. Thyroid can effect this type of thing occasionally. Does she have an unusually thick coat? Does she drink enough water? I didn't check to see where you live but many of us have just gone through an very long hot summer. If my dog was panting that much for months at a time I would be concerned. Has your dog been panting a lot all summer? Gracie loves warm temps! I think she would like to move to the tropics. She hates the AC and despises the ceiling fan when I turn it on in the bedroom. She will burrow under the blanket when the fan is on! |
