The only part of this which is free is her gracious offer to you, not the Yorkie. Food, vet bills, toys, grooming supplies, and basic needs this Yorkie will need will cost $$$ for the duration of his life.

I would never let baby Gazou outside . I am totally opposed to peoples letting their dog outside . If a person do it , IMO , it is a irresponsible person who don't deserve to have a dog , no matter the breeds . My brother have 2 Irish wolfhounds and they sleep in the house .

Ouch, dog bite!! I along with Schatzie have my Daisy. She is my Great Parynese who adopted us the day somebody dumped her on our doorstep 5 years ago. She weighed in last week at the vet @ 135 pounds and she LIVES OUTSIDE. She is taken care of, happy, healthy, and never comes into the house.

I am NOT a irresponsible person and I do DESERVE to have a dog. (s) However, this type of dog is bred to live outdoors guarding livestock, I feel no shame in her being outside.

She also get's attention daily by my husband and I, not to mention interaction with Schatzie and Annabelle.

Just out of curiosity, do your other two dogs live outside too?

You have stated before that your parents said you could get one, but do they really want it too? They will take care of the vet bills, right? Since you have a new home, are they going to let it live in the house? Since it's not trained and you will be at school, what will mom say when he has tinkled all over the house all the time? Talk with your parents and give them both sides of the story. I would hate for this little guy to end up outside again looking for another home. I know you really want a yorkie but make sure it will work in your parents home at this time. You are very young to take on all this responsibility. Soon you will be interested in boys and hanging with your friends, then what will happen to him?

One thing to note, if you have a small one and he/she is very young...I would wait to do this until it is about 5 months old. You mentioned you don't have a fence...perhaps put the fenced doggie gate around the back door?
Great idea with the doggie door - I was not going to ask this - but is this yorkie outside ALL YEAR for real ? Mine get cold when it's 50 degrees at night and sleep in jammies too - I feel so bad hearing this - I can't see a social breed like a yorkie outside - Mine LIVE for my touch and most yorkies want to be with us all the time -

Then there's the summer in the heat ? It really doesn't sound like a good situation for the poor guy...maybe someone SHOULD take him in - I felt terriblereading about how he's living - poor little guy - how can he feel love if he's all alone all the time ?

I realize that you are a young girl with the best of intentions.
It is obvious your love for yorkies, but asking a question of
such tells me that your parents really need to support you a
little more in this matter. I am getting the idea that if you
live in a brand new house and your dad won't let you put in a
doggie door he probaby isn't going to let you keep a dog that
has accidents in the house in the house for very long. My
suggestion is to pass and wait until you are more ready to
care for a pet in the way it needs to be cared for. I mean
really what is the hurry? I have a 12 year old daughter so I
know that sometimes she wants things too but if I can't do
right by it and she can't do right by it we don't bring it into
our home because it wouldn't be fair to the animal involved.
The love of yorkies wore off on my daughter in about 2 weeks
once she saw all that was actually involved in having to care
for him he wasn't so cute and fun anymore. Needless to say
it didn't surprise me when that happened and that is why when
we got a yorkie we got it because we wanted him and not because
she did. So please...please think this through. Nothing will break
my heart more than to read future posts from you telling us
about a 6 pound yorkie being kept outside in a pen wrapped
in plastic and a heat lamp, or of him getting hurt by hawks or
other dogs because he is an out door dog. I am sorry if I sound
harsh but I only say these things from experience. Right now
we have 4 dogs. I never on my own would have gone and picked
out 2 Labs. The hair is horrible but they are still kept in the house.
I thank my son who was not responsible enough to take care of
them for dropping them off on my doorstep. My next dog is a
Dachsund (weiner dog) to which again I owe thanks to my oldest
daughter because she tired of him and all of a sudden he was here
too. I shudder to think of what would have happened to these dogs
had I not stepped in an taken responsibility for them. It wasn't their
fault that their original owners sucked. It pains me to have people
look at animals like they can just throw them away when they become
inconvenient to them. Dogs or any other pet are way more than a
void to fill a want. They are companion animals that need constant
attention, patience and love, they are very costly to feed, to keep
healthy and groomed as well. There is just so much more to pet ownership than I think you understand. Even as an adult I can't have everything
I want or love and it's best to learn that lesson at a young age.
