very interesting..... I made an interesting observation last night..... Mason barks quite often at the door when he (certainly not me) hears or senses someone outside. Sometimes it's a regular bark, sometimes it's more of a growl. When my roommate comes home and Mason hears the keys outside the door, he immediately starts barking. What I realized though, is that he NEVER barks when I am outside the door trying to unlock the key.....hmmmmm..... So I wonder... 1. Does Mason know that I am outside the door and not a stranger? 2. Why does he bark at everyone who stands outside our door except for me? Is it a way of protecting me or something? Does anyone else notice this with their yorkies?

| Yep this is how Chachi is too. I think its their way of being protective. No one can even come in our yard without him barking.

Yes I notice it all time Annie barks and howls all the time whenever she hears a noise outside the door. But only if we are at home. If we aren't (obviously I don't know) but when I am approaching the door and I don't even hear a peep! I think she want s to protect us!

does he bark at other people (like your roommate) when you aren't home? if so, he's probably protecting you.

Doggies are smart little buggers. They can sense and smell things that we have no idea about. I used to live in a 5th floor walk-up here in New York and our old pug would sit by the door and bark a little. Lo and behold a few minutes later my husband would put his key in the lock. He sensed my husband walking up the stairs!!!
