| Grooming help... I was reading a post about cutting the hair around the eyes and I'm a little confused. Brutus looks like he needs some serious grooming on his face since his hair goes in his eyes but I was assuming it would grow and he was just at an awkward stage since he's just about 5 months. Do you think I should cut his hair on his face and if so where? Thanks! |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | Sometimes you can leave that hair and it will grow out longer and you can pull it up - it depends on what kind of cut you want him to have also - he has beautiful hair - and lots of it - if it were me - I would trim the eyes a little bit for vison reasons - or you can use Vasaline to keep it laying flat - I took the liberty of lightening his pic so we could see it better - he's adorable ! |

| no expert Good morning. I'm no expert...but this is what I do. I marked Burtis's picture as best I could as to where I would cut. I always cut the pieces of fur on the top of the snout and bewteen the eyes to about 1/4 of an inch (this keeps it out of the eyes). Then i cut the top of the head and between the ears (including the hairs that grow around the ears) to about 1/2-3/4 of an inch. Then I trim the cheeks to about 1/2 of an inch. But personally I like the "wisker/beard" area to be a little longer. Judging the the picture you posted of Brutis...I would probably leave that alone entirely this time. I hope this helps...of course it is all just a personal preference as to how you want their face to look. I try to get it as close to how she looked as a baby as I can. |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | That's a really good diagram and a great map of the problem areas ! That's where I trim my girls with the exception of their cheeks but I do have to trim up Cheri's cause her face hair grows straight UP in some places - She looks like Teen Wolf if I don't |

| Thank you both so much! Maybe I'll attempt to trim it today. Villette I was looking at your album and I think you have two of the most beautiful yorkies I've ever seen! Their hair is amazing! All the pictures are great but the Chanel and Cheri outside pictures are my favorite! I really want Brutus to have the long hair like that. I just hope it comes in like yours! I know it's probably not an indicator of how Brutus will look but his mother and father had beautiful hair. If I didn't want the topknot though how short would I have to cut that hair? I've been trying to put bows and barettes in his hair but not only does he hate it his hair is still too short and pieces hang out. I can never see his eyes but I don't want to regret cutting it either. Thanks! Carolyn |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | Thank you so much - that was really nice to hear - and if Brutus's parents have great hair - he probably will - it already looks like he's got a great start - you can let it grow and use bows if you like them and he'll let you - they have AWESOME boy bows - little trains - sports stuff - you name it - If I had a boy I'd go nuts over the bows I've seen online - The puppy cut is really cute - I have Chanel's pic below when she had one and IF you decide to cut the bangs - they can do them short enough where they stay out of their eyes - lots of boys have that style hair - it will sort of part itself in the middle eventually - but long hair is beautiful on a male yorkie too...and can look just as boyish ! |

| Thanks for the vaseline tip! I just put some on him and it's so much better! I can finally see his eyes and I think he likes it because he's running around the house like a madman! |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | OH good ! I used to do it twice a day - in between just comb it flat and he should be good to go - Aren't his eyes so purty ! When I used to have to do Cheri's it was like a whole new cute face was looking back at me all bright eyed ! |

| Here's a before and after picture. My 6 year old son wants him back the way he was! Okay edited to say there's still some stray hairs and I have the worst digital camera in the world! But it is better than before. Last edited by Brutus'mama; 05-26-2005 at 08:11 AM. |

| or you can use Vasaline to keep it laying flat - Red98vett, I think you are like the queen of Yorkie moms! I never would have thought of Vasaline, but I am going to try that! Rocky is having a bad hair month, too! It just hasn't grown enough to pull all of it up off of his eyes! Thanks! Grow, hair, grow! |
