Please help! Problem with Groomer I just had my yorkie groomed for the first time yesterday (she is a year old tomorrow and I had always trimmed her myself). She totally hacked her hair off..claimed it was a "puppy cut" but I have never seen a puppy cut like this one...going to take months for her hair to grow back...but that is not my concern. Today she will not get off my lap, is totally moping around..i gave her some nutrical to try and pep her up adn now she seems to have a redness (almost like a rash) on the inside of her left ear and her ears are very warm to the touch...Could something be wrong?? Please help. What a nightmare!!

I am not sure about the rash, but just wanted to tell you to give her lots of extra hugs from us. Sorry for the bad experience. Tammy

Don't know what to say either other than sorry that you had to go through this. The only other thing I can think of is maybe she cut her ear a little or maybe she plucked the hair from her ears out and she's irritated. You can also try calling your vet and see if they can take a look at her ear.

She may have razor burn. There are various medications that you can buy to put on it. Some are available at PetSmart. However, what I always keep on hand and use for most anything is Chris Christensen Peace and Kindness. That is definately not a puppy cut.

Could we see a couple of pictures? I'd like to see this horrible haircut and an up close picture of her ear. I'm never fond of the haircuts I get for the first few hours because I am so used to seeing the hair longer. an aside: I never let the groomer pluck my babies' ears. They must simply keep that hair short.

Donating YT 500 Club Member | I'm sure the ear rash is razor burn. Ozzie gets it so bad that we tell them it has to be done by hand or please don't do it. Sorry to hear the baby had a bad cut. Our first Yorkie got a serious onion-peeling cut once. Even HE was embarrassed and immediately went to hide as soon as he got home, the poor thing. |

Being put in a cage at a groomers for hours is always tramatic on these little babies. They can also pick up fleas, kennel cough and staph infections. I've seen groomers take dogs out of the cages and without disinfecting it, just put another dog in. I don't even take mine for nail cuts anymore because they use the same clippers, combs, table and all without ever disinfecting them after each use. (I now use a very coarse emery board) You should just invest in a grooming book, good scissors and clipper with a couple different blades, and do your own grooming.

So, can anyone please recommend a book or video that I can watch to learn how to tip her ears (which the groomer was supossed to do, but SHAVED THEM COMPLETELY!!) and how to cut her the right way... Also, any tools I need to get..I am never trusting her to anyone ever again.. she still hasnt gotten off my lap..I feel so bad!!! I think she knows how silly she looks... | |

We took our puppy to Petsmart for their "puppy package". It was supposed to be a trim on the feet and the ears and my husband asked them to just trim up her eyebrows so she could see. When he got her back, she did not look the same at all. Her face was shaved also! She looked like a scottie dog. I was not happy. Unfortunately there is nothing you can do but wait for it to grow out. Luckily within a couple of weeks our puppy started growing eyebrows again. She looks cuter now, and we've had her to another groomer who did a really nice job on her body, made her look just like she did when she was just a little baby. Thanks heavens it went okay this time. You should probably ask your vet about the rash, but aloe might help if it's razor burn.

I'm sorry your little dog is suffering. I've never taken mine anywhere except for nail trimming and the last time I did that the kid made three of them bleed and I was even holding her for him. My son and I do it now as she really fights us but I don't have to leave her with a stranger who may have less aptitude than I have. This woman is a groomer and several people have said they liked her grooming tape: http://www.crownroyalyorkies.com/ Maybe it will be helpful to you.

You don't have to buy a book on grooming when there are lots of sites with that information for free. This one is the best I've seen so far. http://www.ytca.org/grooming_clips1.html
