Looking for cute little girl yorkie to breed with my adorable stud! Hello:-) I just joined this site and was wondering if you could help me with something? Im trying to find breeders in the NE or IA area. I have an adorable little stud and am looking to find a female to mate with. He's wanting a playmate and I have to say I want another yorkie so badly. Arn't they just the best? Just get back to thank you!

I guess I just didnt realize how much you had to do to breed. Guess I should have done my homework. My aunt, when she was a breeder, she just bred with one of her friend so I guess I didnt even think about what all went into it. I dont want to breed him with some random stranger. Im new to Nebraska and I dont even know anyone that owns a yorkie. I asked the vet about breeding and he said that he was old enough but didnt mention anything to me about test and everything else. He is AKC registered. I don't know I guess I was just looking for him a playmate. He goes crazy around other dogs he just absolutly loves it. So what all do I need to become a breeder?

I'm not a breeder myself, but I have done research on the topic and I ultimately decided against breeding. There is so much hard work, money, time, worry, ect. that goes into breeding that I knew it as not for me. I know the initial cost of starting a line is very expensive. You must have your yorkie (both sire and dam) tested inside and out to make sure they are free of genetic defects such as liver shunts and luxating patellas. If your yorkie has these or any other defective traits, it is very important taht you not breed them bc it would be aweful to pass on these traits to puppies. You also must consider the risk of breeding to the mother. Yorkies are so tiny and there is always the risk taht you will lose the mother. There are so many experienced breeders here that will be able to help you more than I can. Hopefully they'll chime in. But breeding is serious business that you cannot take lightly. Just do all the research, and really make sure that breeding is something you want to do before you jump in. Good luck! | |

If you're only looking for a playmate for your dog, I'd just buy one from a breeder. The reason that breeders get into what they're doing is to better the breed.. for the love of the breed. I'm not saying you should never become a breeder if that's what you want to do.. but honestly I'd study up on it for years before attempting. Find a mentor who can help teach you what it takes. Don't just jump into it because you want cute puppies... there are so many things that can go wrong. Check out the Breeder's Section here.. read books, ect.

I agree with everyone's messages. Please keep in mind that there are so many Yorkies (and other animals) living in shelters (some that won't be adopted) because there are just too many out there 'on the market' (for lack of a better phrase). I don't want to discourage you in any way, but please do lots of research. I have 2 Yorkies that came from a breeder who doesn't do proper screening of her breeding dogs. Both my Yorkies have Luxating Patellas in both rear legs. In New York the surgery costs about $3000 PER LEG!!! If you are only looking for a playmate, then please have both dogs spayed and/or neutered for their own protection. Best of luck!

He is very handsome...do u have any more pics to post... as far as breeding I know nothing except puppies, to me, would be so stressful if there wasn't a TON of knowledge on Yorkies at reach, very sweet loving and wonderful breed but they also have alot of things that set them apart from other breeds...I had alot of stress with my little guy as a puppy and if it wasn't for the breeder, I would have probably lost him so thank god someone does know about the risks that arise with these little guys!
