If you're only looking for a playmate for your dog, I'd just buy one from a breeder. The reason that breeders get into what they're doing is to better the breed.. for the love of the breed.
I'm not saying you should never become a breeder if that's what you want to do.. but honestly I'd study up on it for years before attempting. Find a mentor who can help teach you what it takes. Don't just jump into it because you want cute puppies... there are so many things that can go wrong.
