Welcome to YorkieTalk! Glad you are here to learn and to share the love of yorkies!
I'm not a breeder myself, but I have done research on the topic and I ultimately decided against breeding. There is so much hard work, money, time, worry, ect. that goes into breeding that I knew it as not for me.
I know the initial cost of starting a line is very expensive. You must have your yorkie (both sire and dam) tested inside and out to make sure they are free of genetic defects such as liver shunts and luxating patellas. If your yorkie has these or any other defective traits, it is very important taht you not breed them bc it would be aweful to pass on these traits to puppies.
You also must consider the risk of breeding to the mother. Yorkies are so tiny and there is always the risk taht you will lose the mother.
There are so many experienced breeders here that will be able to help you more than I can. Hopefully they'll chime in. But breeding is serious business that you cannot take lightly. Just do all the research, and really make sure that breeding is something you want to do before you jump in.
Good luck!
