| ![]() I think you are wonderful for thinking about your babies needs! She will love you just as much if you get another, as she does now! The question is, will you have the time to split your attention between them? If you do, then you can't go wrong getting another. I have double the Yorkie love with two and don't regret it for a moment. I have fallen as much in love with my second as I am with my first. Now each one of my heels has a Yorkie stuck to it! lol. I no longer do the Yorkie shuffle, now it is the Yorkie Two-Step!!! haha. And they get along fantastically and LOVE to play, and they are sooo entertaining!! I think bringing a new one in the home while yours is still young is key to them getting along. Another benefit to raising a new puppie, is yours will be a big help in the training department. They tend to watch the older ones to learn what to do and what not. Do what your heart tells you. (and when you get a new puppy, don't forget to post pics!!! hehe)

| ![]() If you can afford it...get another one!! A couple of things though....a puppy will copy everything that your older one does so make sure he/she is trained completely so it doesn't copy any bad habits! Also, about being afraid the dogs won't play with you...dogs love humans and they won't ignore you. If anything, they will fight for your attention! I'm considering getting another one too |

| ![]() I have also been thinking about getting another yorkie. I have my hands full right now with just one though. My biggest worry is that they wont get along well. Right now I am happy with Hannah being my only baby. |

| ![]() So I posted this full-well knowing you would all tell me to get two...so I guess I did it so you could all reinforce what I have been telling myself to do for months now. It's so wierd though...I truly don't have that ache you get when you just want another baby around...I just feel bad for Reese and want her to have a happy life and feel bad that I am teaching all day and she sits alone...sometimes I think I am a little nutso the way I worry about this dog...does anyone else ever feel this way??? Everyone makes fun of me!!! Especially for being on YT so much, but it's addicting... ![]() |

| ![]() Jazzie was happy and content being the only "child" for the first 5 years of her life with us. I don't think it was mean at all. She did just fine, loved us and was very well behaved and socialized well with other dogs and people. When we got Jewel, we actually thought she resented sharing her spotlight with her. ![]()

| ![]() I can understand that you must feel terrible when you come home and she's all alone... My mum had 2 yorkies (both sisters) and they loved my mom so much, constantly her shadow! and they shared that forever sister bond... Sadly they have both passed on about 2 years ago, ![]() I think instead of having one little shadow near you...you'll have two! ![]() ![]() My little Guidoune, she loves my mums dog...she gives her kisses when she's happy, Guidoune, we'll she's actually starting her labour right now! lol.. i plan to keep a little girl from this litter, They'll have a mum/daughter bond forever. Just gotta keep my fingers crossed for a little girl! ![]() So i think if your ready to raise a puppy and would love to have a companion to keep your girl company while your away, a second is always best!!! Even if your girl might not take to the new addition right away, after a while you'll be coming home to two little yorkies on your couch together! enjoying eachother's company... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Take care ~Natacha & Guidoune~

| ![]() wow, I was in your same boat a few months ago.....I didnt want to have to housetrain another yorkie because of my hardwood floors, and manolo is so dominant he only gets along with certain dogs. So....I got a cat! Easy, low maintenance, and he has a great friend now. I got a sphynx (no hair), because of my allergies to cats, and come to find out this particular breed gets along better with dogs than anything else! He is definitely happier now; he has someone to keep him occupied when i am away. Something to think about. Here's the link: www.naughty-nature.com |

| ![]() its diffrent when you buy one, bond and then get another. Usually its when people get 2 puppies at the same time that the pups bond more to eachother and less to you. |

| ![]() Up until this past month (please see my posting on Buddy the Yorkie LOL) I have always had ONE Yorkie. I taught school for years and left at 7, didn't get home till around 3:30 and my pooches did fine. I did make CERTAIN that when I was home that I took them on playdates, took them out for loooooong periods of neighborhood socialization and spent really quality time with them. Right from the get-go (meaning when I first brought them home at three months) I started teaching them to be alone for ever lengthening periods of time to avoid the dreaded separation anxiety that so many people complain about. This CAN DEF. BE AVOIDED. If you are seriously concerned about your poochie being alone for too long and you def. do NOT WANT ANOTHER YORKIE, then get a dog walker or pet sitter in once a day during your absence (as many of neighbors do)and he/she will be just fine. Question? Is your dog housetrained? Or did you succumb to the paper training thinking? (which I personally believe is a disservice--YORKIES ARE DOGS!!) At any rate, you do not need to get a second dog. Having said that, I now have two because I simply could NOT let Buddy go anywhere but to me--even after asking many people to adopt him when I first started pet sitting for his EXTREMELY NEGLECTFUL owner. Many wanted him and I almost let him go because I was so afraid of the work that might be involved with a second dog. Buddy is only two months older than Dixie--four and half years old. I am retired and have the time, had the time to socialize them and be vigilant for the first few weeks. Will you have this time if you bring in a second dog? Would you want a real puppy (I wouldn't recommend this since THEY ARE WORK when that young) or would you get one a bit older--say around 2? These are things you must think about. But once that second pooch and your first born know each other and YOU know that both are reliable in the house (bathroom-wise) then having two is really cool. At any rate, if YOU DO NOT HAVE THE TIME TO DO THIS PROPERLY then just carry on as you are and if your dog is alone too much during the day, get someone in to socialize and walk her on a daily basis while you are working. You definitely NEED TIME TO START WITH ANOTHER DOG. I hope this helps just a little. YS |

| ![]() Since my original post I am sad to say that my builiding has banned dogs due to the carelessness of dog owners who have abused the allowance of pets and not cleaned up after them in common areas and such. Those of us with dogs have them "grandfathered in"..so needless to say the idea of even getting another yorkie at this point in time has been shot down...maybe it's fate and god is telling me that now is not the right time...either that or I have to move!! I am kind of bummed out, and will just have to keep my fingers crossed that eventually i will end up in a situation where I can get Reese a sister...thanks so much to all of you for your great responses!! At least now I don't feel so terrible being a mommy of one!! |
