Is it mean to have just one yorkie?? So I have been on the fence for MONTHS about getting another yorkie. Reese will be 1 this weekend and I just feel terrible having her all alone while I am at work every day. She loves other dogs, loves to play... I feel like a bad mommy!! I don't want another puppy for me..I just feel bad for her. I need opinions...HELP!!! Is having two so much different than having one??? |
I don't think so. I have just one and she is my constant companion...I am kind of scared that if I get another she won't hang out with me as much!!!! Selfish I guess. |
I felt the same way. So when Bentley was 10 months old I got Zoey. It is wild at times, they LOVE playing together!!! There was jealous issues at first though! I don't think it's mean to just have one though!! |
My opinion, if you can afford another one, get another one. I have never had one alone, so I don't know what it would be like to have just one. |
I had Gracie for 2 years by herself and I recently got Lily and they do not play together at all. Gracie loves playing with my parents minature sheltie but refuses to even have anything to do with Lily. I would say dont just get another dog for company for your other dog...unless you are ready to raise another puppy :) I was tempted to get another yorkie about 3 months after Gracie and I knew it would be too much dog for me at the time... I think when you have one yorkie they are your best friend...once you get 2 or more they grow close to each other more....IMO :) |
I see both sides...I really didn't want to share Chanel & was happy with only ONE yorkie - her...and she IS my best friend...but...in getting Cheri, now I have two best friends. :D Chanel didn't change at all and if anything is even more attached to me cause she doesn't want Cheri cutting in on mommy time :D So instead of a having one yorkie Velcro'd to my butt - I have one for each cheek now :D its much warmer this way LOL |

Yes, it is mean to just have one...to yourself...lol...:D why would you do that to yourself? j/k I bought one orininally and two weeks later bought my second...:p Seriouslly though, it is not mean to you furbaby to only have one. My 5 furbabies miss me as much when I leave as they did when I had two. They miss YOU no matter how many you have. It does help that they have eachother but nothing can take your place to them. IMO Yorkies are the best!!! :D |

So sweet thinking about your pup. If you are gone all day long, and your yorkie doesnt have a companion, she might really, like the interaction! Yorkies love cats too! Or another small dog friend. If you decide to get one, I would get a younger companion, then your dog so she knows she is top dog still. |
Thank you so much for all your opinions..I like the butt and cheeks analogy myself:D I am so on the fence because I also feel like I am afraid she will change and not pay as much attention to me (selfish, I know) And sometimes I just dont think I could love another dog (let alone human!!) as much as I love her (is that crazy that I love her THAT much??!!) But I see how excited and friendly she is with any other dog and feel TERRIBLE when I come home and she is just curled up on the couch...I think about her sitting all by herself all day and it kills me! I know that I would hate it if I were her!! It's so hard..AAAHHHH!!! |

I don't think its mean to have just one. I also think having 2 is like doubling the fun and pleasures they give your life. :aimeeyork  :aimeeyork |
I don't think you're mean to have only one. I was like you and didn't want to share my baby - she has a significant heart murmur and the vet doesn't think she'll live long. So I was all set to just give her the very best life I could and then she started getting separation anxiety and I decided to get her a brother to keep her company and to hopefully help me when I do lose her. It was the best thing I could've done! She can get possessive of me and selfish with her toys but she loves her little brother with a passion. And I can't believe how much I've fallen for the little bugger myself:) |
