Don't be too upset with your vet. They are not dog nutritionists. I have talked with my vet at length about foods and she was very honest with me. She shrugs her shoulders and says you don't get much information about animal nutrition at vet school. LOL I try to educate my vets a little with each visit! | |

| I did some research and found a local doggie daycare that sells Solid Gold. I'm calling them tomorrow. I'm intersted in the "Just a Wee Bit-Bison" food because it has tiny bites. My dogs will only eat very small kibble. I wonder if they would like that...also a plus: a 4 pound bag of the wee bits is $8.94. I pay the same for a 3 pound bag of Royal Canin. If you have it shipped, the shipping is $10.00, so I'm hoping this local place has it for a smaller mark up.

| From what I have heard, 6 star foods are not recommended for yorkies because the protein content is soooo high. I was told that 5 star and 4 star foods are the way to go I agree with chattiesmom...Most vets recommend science diet, purina, those types of foods, so don't be too upset with them. Any of you who are looking to feed Natural Balance or Solid Gold, they carry those at Petco now. And if you email the people at natural balance and ask for some samples, they will send you some. The food I'm looking at feeding my little one is Merricks Grammy's Pot Pie...we've tried the canned, and she absolutely loves it...They sell it at Pet Supermarket. We were wanting to try the dry food too, but they were out, so I'm waiting until they get it in stock.

| I feed Blue Buffalo because of the convenience of finding it a Petsmart. It was recommended by a lady that studies dog nutrition. Of course she preaches raw feeding first, but she said if I had to choose something from Petsmart, Blue Buffalo was a good choice. From the website referrenced on this thread, it received a 4 star rating.

| Donating YT 3000 Club Member | I feed Bengi Natural Balance Potato & Duck. He seems to like it better than other foods I tried. He's a picky eater, so I haven't found one that he can devour like boiled chicken. I think Natural Balance is 4 stars and they carry it at Petco. |

| Okay, i have a problem with getting mine to eat most kinds of the dry food. They started out on the Science Diet dry with Lamb and rice....then i bought some of the Ceasars and they seemed to love it, but i also have a cat and have noticed them eating the cat food. I have put it up and out of the way, i only feed the cat long enough for him to get what he needs and then take away the bowl so mine don't get into it. But, they are such picky eaters. What type of puppy food is best for Sophie, who is now going to have babies? Any suggestions./ thanks yorkiemomma7 |

| I had fed Bailey Royal Canin from the time I brought her home at 10 weeks until this past Nov. She started getting sick and her eyes were running. She was also scratching a lot.... My vet was a big fan of R.C., not any more though. After Bailey and several other dogs started developing allergies and other problems she no longer sells that brand at her office, she said she just kept seeing dog after dog (and cat) having problems she decided enough was enough. I have been trying both my girls on different brands and right now we are trying Natures Variety Raw, they both like it and are eating it which is really the most important thing, it doesn't matter how good the food is if they won't eat it. A lot of stores will give you free samples if you ask, or call the dog food companies and they will send you samples or coupons.

| My yorkie was raised on it until she was 3 months old then got really sick, had to take her off of it. She is on NaturalLife Puppy Lamaderm, lamb @ rice formula and has not been sick at all. Get it at WallMart.

| I know for a fact that Vet's get kick-backs for referring Science Diet. Personally, I feed all my doggies Eukanuba still. I like reading these posts because I wouldn't mind changing to a "better" quality dog food. BUT I have never had any problems with the Eukanuba, Small Breed Puppy and my doggies are all healthy, and have nice coats! Maybe we should start a survey about the dog food everyone feeds their Yorkie to see what the majority likes...it would be interesting and great information...
