Donating YT 11K Club Member | When does a female have her first heat? Because London is almost 5 mos old and I need to know this....I know she will have one before she get's fixed because she's so small that I'm scared to have her fixed anytime soon. Also Teddy is almost 8 mos old. He is not neutured yet . I plan to neuter him but maybe in a month. He has never humped anything or anyone and he hasn't had the lipstick. Do you think it's a problem being that she is so tiny around him if she were to go in heat? He has never humped her or anything like that. They act very much like brother and sister. Please someone respond. Thank you |

1st Season on the average of 8 - 10 months of age. Sometimes they do come in the 1st time as early as 6 months. Acting like brother and sister will go away when she comes in season. The thing is that when yorkies are in season we sometimes don't see the signs....so, you must be very careful with her.

Even though they are both young, I think they could possibly do the deed. I have read that you don’t want to impregnate a female on her first heat because it can rob her of the calcium that she needs for her own healthy growth in this first year. Maybe you could try a belly band and panties though I find it a little difficult because they both use Wee wee pads. |

Well I have these diapers for her but they're too big. The thing is when I look at her and him she is sooooo tiny compared to him. He is 7-8 lbs and she is under 2 lbs so is it even possible for them to mate by accident? I think he's too big to even do that

| I have heard case as young as 6months old-coming into heat. And she will back up to a crate even & let him do it if she's ready. So seperating can be very hard. If you plan to get him fixed anyways I would do it right away. But if you do plan on breeding in the future I would be coming with a stronger game plan. Would you having a band on & your wife having panties on keep you from going at it if you really wanted to-it doesnt stop my husband The first heat can be very light some people dont even know until its to late. My friend had a dog come in at 8 mons & again at 12, some come in more often & sooner-its just very unpredictable. |

| Ever see a 10yr old 70lb german shepard doing a 6month old 12lb beagle, I havent either but I see the strange looking pups they produce sitting in the pound-not that your babies would go to a pound, but the point is dogs do not know better, we make their choices for them & then sometimes live w/the wrong one and the pain even death they cause. He doesnt care how big she is, especially if she goes into heat. She may not even get to 3 lbs full grown so she is to small to breed & he is above the standard for studding, In my opinion I would call & get him fixed immediately & then she will be safe until shes older & you can get her fixed. |

Thanks! I will def. get him fixed. I guess I was just wondering how it is possible for them to do "it" since she's so small then her genitals are small also and how that is possible. I hope I'm not too graphic but I don't even know where her privates are...I mean what I see is something that looks like a tiny penis but there's no testicals and nowhere I see possible for a male to insert (again srry for being graphic and detailed) but I was wondering, I was told she's a girl and I'm pretty sure because I went to the vet but I didn't ask her. Is this what a female dog's genitals supposed to look like? Or maybe only as a puppy? I'm confused.....oh my

| No need for pics -- you can't really see the entry point until she is in heat. Then everything enlarges/swells. It might not be possible for them to effectively mate, but that will not stop them from trying and it could kill the poor baby girl, and/or injure the male. Definately need to take care of things one way or another as soon as possible. Talk it over with your vet.

| I agree that the male should be neutered soon before any bad habbits develope. Even if your female is to small for him to actually mate (which I'm not saying is the case, I think they find a way) The males do get very determined and may be alittle ruffer with her than normal. She's so small that she could become injured. It's very hard controlling a male and I wouldn't take the chance...I'd suggest, make the appt. soon!! Diana |

| Emilee didn't have her first heat until the day before she turned 17 months old. Gidget didn't have hers until she was 16 months old. Emilee has been having her heats every six months, but Gidget has yet to have her 2nd. It's been 7 months since her first.

| Mimi just went into heat and she is 11 months old. She showed no signs. The only reason I noticed it was because I bathed her last week and had her on my lap while drying her. When I picked her up I noticed blood on the towel. Its no fun for her or for me. She was due to get spayed next week so now I have to wait 2 months to get it done. If you are getting them fixed do it soon. I wish I wasn't so scared and got her fixed sooner. Lesson learned for me. BTW your babies are adorable! |
