My husband and I ride also. I have thought about taking Hannah with us this summer but I was afraid too. We just got Hannah in December so we haven't riden since we have had her. If I did take her on a ride with us, I think it would only be on our little country road and not the main road. I did see these carriers that mount on the sissy bar rack and its made of a cage material that is non-collapsable, and that looks like the safest thing that I have seen. But I am sure that any way that you take your dog riding with you it can be a potentially dangerous situation.

I didn't have the York's when we rode bikes. But I had a child and she was always with us. We had many friends who took their fur kids with them and they were all quite aware of what "could" happen. One of our closest friends is putting a sidecar on his Harley so he can take his Aussie with him on trips. My neighbor was driving through town in her car with her dog strapped in the backseat when she was sideswiped. She was OK. Her Maxi didn't make it. It hit on his side. We can love them and we can take the greatest care with them. Sometimes bad things just happen. To say that it's irresponsible for someone to want to take their pet with them when they travel is cruel. That's like saying that you can never take your pet for a walk because the leash might break and they could run into the street and get hit. We traveled the Great Lakes in our 30ft Catalina sailboat for 11 yrs. Our dogs were always with us. Maggie jumped overboard once at the dock. She swam and we pulled her out.

So, go ahead and take them with you if you want to, leave them if you don't. Just think safe and live your life to the fullest.

I don't have ride motorcycles, in fact I am terrified of them! But I do have horses. I raise and train Miniature horses to drive. Occasionally I carry one of the furkids on a ride in my cart. I need a basket to carry them in, though, driving takes two hands and it is hard to manage the reins and a Yorkie.

How is taking risks like this any different than someone using a correction collar on their Yorkie? Is one more realistic than the other? And who determines that? The individual owner?
I have my opinion on both, and while they may or may not be identical to one another, I've seen a few posters that while they would NEVER put a collar on a Yorkie, only a harness, they're more than willing to put them on a motorcycle where now not only are you a factor, but other motorists are as well.
Just curious.

well don't hate me for this but... gizmo has a backpack ..traveling one and he goes in his bag and we take him for short rides..... not all the time.. done this once.... but just my opinion.. I am a worry wart though and could only do it for a couple of minutes ..but tell you the truth he loved it...

I agree.... it's the same thing in a car accident..... look at that video of the robbery in those people's own home... if it's meant to happen it will... personally. my fur kid likes it... mommy and daddy are the one's more cautious.... what can I say.... he enjoys the wind in his hair...

Oscar loves to ride on the Harley and if we are going somewhere that he can go with, he does! He is heartbroken if he hears the Road King start up and he is not geared up to go with us. I understand that some of you are passionate that they should NOT go...but things happen...good things happen and bad things happen...but the happiness he shows us when he gets to ride is priceless, in my opinion. It is a chance I am willing to take...and we love every minute of it!

I take Edie bicycle riding. It is probably just as risky as motorcycle riding because you can still get hit by another vehicle. She loves it, though, and I enjoy bike riding more when she is with me. In fact, I enjoy everything more when Edie can share it with me.

What I was comparing a correction collar to was the "risks" that it poses to your small dog when being used versus the risks involved w/ putting your dog on a two wheeled object being propelled down the street at an average speed of 45 mph. THAT's what I was referring to, were the RISKS people were willing to take w/ their dogs.

I'd think a car is far safer than a motorcycle...it's a traveling box w/ a limited travel if you got into an accident. A correction collar only really will hurt your small dog if it's used inappropriately PERIOD. A
Unlike a motorcycle where the variables have increased SIGNIFICANTLY. Where your contact w/ the ground at high speeds is only the circumfrence of a half dollar per wheel and now, if you were to get into an accident, your Yorkie would either be rolled up and dragged underneath you or equally bad your little one gets flug high (depending on if you lowsided or highsided, or someone hit you) and w/ an unlimted travel distance (not withstanding trees/curb/other cars and so on) at a high volocity. He simply would not survive this, but he might a car and or a correction collar. That was my point.
There are MANY people on this site that cringe and go "*gasp* OH! I would NEVER do" ", why risk it w/ my baby?!?" And here are a few that think that the high risk of motorcycle activity is cute and just fine....live life to the fullest. It makes no sense to me and I'm trying to figure it out.

SO, if anyone needs to post up a "confused smile", I suppose that'd really have to be me! But I think I've made my point just a tad more clear.
